Two LGBTQ Marvel Movie Characters in the Works

At least two LGBTQ Marvel movie characters are in the works, according to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige.

At a press junket for “Ant-Man and The Wasp” Sunday, Feige was asked by The Playlist if an LGBTQ hero or heroine would be represented in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie or if that was even in the works. Feige responded simply, “Yes.”

When pressed further if the character was one we have or haven’t seen yet, Feige answered, “Both ones you’ve seen and ones you haven’t seen.”

The character we haven’t seen can be anyone’s guess, but the one we’ve already met is most likely Tess Thompson’s Valkyrie from “Thor: Ragnarok.” Actress Tessa Thompson, who plays Thor’s enchanted-sword-carrying one-time love interest in the film, revealed on Twitter that her character is bisexual.

“She’s bi. And yes, she cares very little about what men think of her. What a joy to play!” Thompson tweeted after a fan complained that early images of the character make her look like a “typical sexless marvel tomboy.”

In a later tweet, Thompson wrote, “YES! Val is Bi in the comics & I was faithful to that in her depiction. But her sexuality isn’t explicitly addressed in Thor: Ragnarok.”

If Valkyrie bisexuality emerges in future installments, she wouldn’t be the first openly LGBTQ hero in the MCU. On ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” the Inhuman Joey Gutierrez played by Juan Pablo Raba is openly gay.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn has previously said that there may be gay characters in the Marvel universe; maybe we just haven’t seen them yet.

“Somebody asked me, ‘Will there be any gay characters in Marvel movies?’ And, you know, what I meant is there’s a lot of characters in the MCU and very few of them have we delved into what their sexuality is, whether it’s gay or straight or bisexual,” Gunn said. “We don’t really know, so I imagine there are probably, you know, gay characters in the Marvel universe and we just don’t know who they are yet.”

Tessa Thompson Hilariously Addresses ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Absence

(MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD for the ending of “Avengers: Infinity War.” So if you don’t know how it ends and don’t want to know, leave now.)

Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” brought together just about every character from the studio’s 18-film universe to stop Thanos’ quest to wipe out half the known universe. But one character, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie from “Thor: Ragnarok,” was absent and many of the millions of fans who saw the film last weekend noticed.

On Sunday, Thompson put fans at ease by explaining her role in the film.

Confused? Thompson was referencing a Twitter account that was created in March, @Tessasgoats, which showcases goats that look like the actress.

Valkryie was last seen with Thor, Loki and Heimdall at the end of “Thor Ragnorok” on the Asgardian refugee ship to Earth. The opening moments of “Infinity War” show they did not make it very far, with Loki and Heimdall dying at the hands of Thanos, seemingly putting Valkryie’s fate up in the air. But with Thanos’ whole “only kill half” motif, it’s possible she survived.

Or she was turned into a goat and is somewhere running around Wakanda after Bucky perished. The Infinity Gauntlet is pretty powerful.

Tom Cruise Denies ‘Valkyrie’ Fake Butt Rumor: ‘No Prosthetic’

In his latest film, “American Made,” Tom Cruise regularly flashes his bare rear end as part of a running gag, and that led people to ask a question that’s been on his fans’ minds for some time now … does the action star use a prosthetic butt?

In Cruise’s 2008 film, “Valkyrie,” there’s a freeze frame shot of Cruise getting up from a pile of rubble that has left moviegoers wondering whether the actor did a lot of squats to get ready for the role or if he was packing some extra padding in his trousers. When asked by Screen Rant about the posterior speculation, Cruise said he had never heard about this before and assured everyone that no prosthetics were used in “Valkyrie.”

hello, please, i present the theory that for one single shot in Valkyrie (2008), at 5:12, tom cruise wears a fake butt. observe: pic.twitter.com/Tw6yTbsQUe

He also told Screen Rant that when you see him moon everyone in “American Made,” there’s no prosthetics there either.

“It’s me. It’s not CGI, it’s me. I do my own mooning in films. So let it be known, I do my own mooning.”

Tom Cruise does his own mooning. Duly noted.

“American Made” hits theaters this Friday.

Tessa Thompson Gets Down to ‘California Love’ Over ‘Westworld’ Emmy Nods

Now this is an Emmy reaction.

“Westworld” star Tessa Thompson celebrated the HBO show’s whopping 22 nominations in the only way she knew how: by getting down to the classic rap jam, “California Love.”

Aye! Hale and Sizemore (in a lip) loving that Emmy Love! pic.twitter.com/YopllEs636

— Tessa Thompson (@TessaThompson_x) July 13, 2017

The video capturing her grooving — alongside her co-star Simon Quarterman, wearing red lipstick (why, we’re not sure) — appears to have been shot inside her trailer on the “Westworld” set. That would make sense, given the show’s second season is currently in production.

“Westworld” tied with “Saturday Night Live” on Thursday as the most nominated shows of 2017. Thompson was overlooked, but her show netted major nominations including drama series, lead actress (Evan Rachel Wood), lead actor (Anthony Hopkins), supporting actress (Thandie Newton) and supporting actor (Jeffrey Wright). The actress plays Charlotte Hale, the ruthless Executive Director in charge of managing many facets of the titular adult theme park.

Season 2 of “Westworld” is likely to debut on HBO sometime in 2018. Thompson will next be seen as warrior Valkyrie in “Thor: Ragnarok,” which opens Nov. 3.
