‘Lethal Weapon’ Meets ‘The Crown’ in Fake Promo for James Corden, Matt Smith’s New Cop Drama (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Matt Smith and James Corden are kicking ass and taking on royal names in a fake promo for a gritty new cop drama, which aired during the “Late Late Show” Thursday night.

In the teaser for “Lizzie & the Duke” (think “Lethal Weapon” meets “The Crown”) Prince Philip (Smith) is assigned a new partner, his wife, Queen Elizabeth II (Corden). The two have an awkward history, but their chief (played by Terry Crews) thinks the by-the-book Duke and the loose cannon queen are the best of the best and forces a team up.

“Come on, Philip! Let’s go and teach these ghastly ruffians some manners,” Her Majesty says before the two take off in slow motion to go bust some bad guys.

The rest is a long compilation of classic cop show tropes being mashed up with subtle (and some not so subtle) nods to Smith’s tenure on the Netflix drama about the royal couple, and the fact that he and Corden are both super British.

“Bend the knee!” Corden screams while holding a perp against a wall, while Smith interrogates a suspect during tea time. The queen then beheads someone and during a shootout, Philip cries, “I am too royal for this s—.”

It ends with the tagline: “This fall on CBS, criminals are royally screwed.” Oh, we wish.

The British don’t understand Americans affinity for Oct. 31. Well, at least James Corden and Matt Smith don’t, as they harassed poor Vanessa Hudgens — who “lives for Halloween” — as she raved about her favorite holiday on Wednesday’s “Late Late Show.”

“See, we’re British, we don’t really get it,” Corden said before the “Doctor Who” alum jumped in to say, “It’s not a holiday! It’s not a holiday. It’s a day, it passes. Everyone gets dressed up.”

The “Dog Days” actress doubled down, saying it’s not just a “holiday” but a “season” — and that doesn’t go over too well either.

“Frankly, it’s weird,” the late-night host said when Hudgens suggested that they “embrace your inner darkness.”

Corden and Smith especially don’t understand how adults get so into Halloween.

“It’s like the account manager at my son’s school, who is like an accountant at a big law firm and then he’s opening the door with a big ax in his face and blood dripping down, which like, this is completely normal,” Corden said. “And it’s interesting for 30 seconds and then you end up just going, ‘Oh, did you see the game last night?’ And with a man with an ax in the face!”

The British chaps can’t even remember exactly what month it’s in because you don’t even get the day off. Sigh. Time to give it up, Hudgens.

Ex-Roommates James Corden and Dominic Cooper Put the ‘Cute’ in ‘Electrocute’ (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Don’t try this at home, kids — unless you really, really know your buddy, that is.

When “Preacher” star Dominic Cooper stopped by the “Late Late Show” Monday night to visit his old roommate, host James Corden, the pair decided to play a round of “Shock Therapy.”

“Dominic and I are very, very old friends,” Corden told the audience while setting up the bit. “We used to live together. We first met in 2004, we moved into a flat together in 2008. Dominic introduced me to my wife. And we are very, very dear, old friends. We thought we’d play a game to test our friendship and see how well we know each other.”

The host then pulled out two sets of shockers and clickers to help them both send and receive electric volts for wrong answers about each other. Just make sure you don’t go over seven because that’s when you’re really gonna hear an “Ouch!”

Corden slipped by in the first round with a correct answer about which instrument Cooper had to learn to play for a role when they were living together (“The drums!), but Cooper wasn’t so lucky, getting a nasty sting for answering “Italian?” when asked James’ favorite kind of food.

“Lemme see your seven,” Cooper said, distrustful that the jolt he just got was a fair dose. No, no, it’s totally seven. Chill.

But then Corden couldn’t remember the name of Dominic’s character on “Preacher” (even though he totally watched at least the first episode with his friend). “He’s called… You’ve just turned it up! Show me your seven! You’ve gone to eight!” “Only eight!” Cooper said, laughing. “He’s called Dave. Ahhh!”

Sorry, wrong answer.

Watch the full clip above to see if Cooper knows James’ birthday (he does) and his godson’s middle name (he doesn’t).

James Corden Beats Seth Meyers in Weekly Viewers for First Time in a Year

James Corden just bested Seth Meyers’ audience tally for the first time in just over a year — since the last time he left sunny Los Angeles to return home to generally un-sunny London.

Counting three days of delayed viewing, last week, “The Late Late Show With James Corden” drew a nightly average of 1.42 million total viewers, per Nielsen. “Late Night With Seth Meyers” had 1.35 million viewers.

Corden also won just in terms of “Live + Same Day” viewers, with 1.26 million viewers versus Seth’s 1.20 million.

Corden has spent the week broadcasting from his native country, taping a week’s worth of “The Late Late Show” at Central Hall Westminster in London. It follows a similar trip across the pond Corden took last summer.

Guests for Corden’s latest run of London episodes included Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchett, One Direction alum Niall Horan, Cher, “Killing Eve’s” Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Damian Lewis, Ruth Wilson and “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner.

Paul McCartney joined Corden for the Liverpool installment of his most popular segment, “Carpool Karaoke,” where The Beatles legend showed Corden around his native city and performed an entire set for unsuspecting patrons of a local pub.

The Thursday episode of “The Late Late Show,” featuring Turner, McCartney and the Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl, alone drew in 1.70 million viewers, the show’s largest nightly audience since December 14, 2017.
