LAPD and NYPD Agree ‘Die Hard’ Really Is a Christmas Movie: ‘Yippie Ki Yay & Ho Ho Ho’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

It’s settled: “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie.

How do we know? Because if two rival police departments on opposite coasts can come together on one of the most polarizing debates in cinema, then it must be true.

Over Christmas Eve, the New York police department and the Los Angeles police department mutually agreed to set aside who has the best beaches or bagels and came to the conclusion that “Die Hard,” the 1988, Bruce Willis action classic, is a Christmas movie.

“We’d like to acknowledge our partners at @LAPDHQ who have been working with us to protect Christmas since Hans Gruber’s 1988 attack on Nakatomi Plaza,” the New York cops said in a tweet.

And the Angelenos were quick to respond: “We too would like to acknowledge our partners at @NYPDnews for their continued partnership,” the LAPD wrote. “They’ll always be more than welcome to follow in McClane’s footsteps & come to the (better) coast & have a party. Yippie Ki Yay & ho ho ho. #YesItsAChristmasMovie

Now, a moment to weigh both sides of the debate:

In the film, John McClane (Willis) is trying to get home to his family over the holidays, and he stops over at a company Christmas party before it is hijacked by terrorists. McClane even taunts the bad guys with a dead guy wearing a Santa hat and a shirt that says “Ho Ho Ho.” Even the screenwriter has discussed some of the film’s parallels to the nativity story. What’s more, 20th Century Fox decided themselves it’s a Christmas movie, recently releasing a new trailer for the film that specifically brands it as a holiday classic.

Counterpoint: don’t be stupid. It’s not “It’s a Wonderful, Life,” which by the way is only barely set at Christmas. But if every movie set in December was a Christmas movie, then the list would be endless. And Bruce Willis himself trolled everyone at his Comedy Central Roast and declared himself that “Die Hard” is not a Christmas movie.

If you’re still torn though, you can always pick up the book “A Die Hard Christmas” written in the style of the classic “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and decide for yourself.

Police Drama ‘Deputy’ With David Ayer and Will Beall in Development at Fox

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Fox is developing “Deputy,” a police drama from David Ayer and former LAPD detective Will Beall.

The project, which has a script-plus-significant-penalty commitment, will have Ayers on board not only as an executive producer but also as director. Beall, who also wrote CBS’ short-lived adaptation of “Training Day,” will pen the script.

“Deputy,” which is being made with the full cooperation of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, is a co-production between Fox and Entertainment One. Ayer and Chris Long’s production company, Cedar Park, is also on board.

Here is the logline for the project, per Fox: Deputy Bill Hollister is a career lawman who’s very comfortable kicking down doors and utterly lost in a staff meeting. But when the LA County Sheriff drops dead, Bill becomes acting sheriff of Los Angeles County, in charge of 10,000 sworn deputies policing a modern Wild West.

Ayer has some experience here. Along with “Suicide Squad,” he directed cop-themed films “End of Watch,” “Bright and “Street Kings,” along with writing the Antoine Fuqua-directed film version of “Training Day.”

LAPD on Tom Arnold-Mark Burnett Dispute: ‘No Police Report Filed’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

The Los Angeles Police Department on Monday threw cold water on reports of a physical altercation between Tom Arnold and “The Apprentice” producer Mark Burnett, telling TheWrap they have no record of Arnold reaching out to them and that no police report has been filed so far.

“There was no Tom Arnold incident that we have record of,” LAPD spokesperson officer Ray Brown said.

“There is no record of any incident with Tom Arnold. None. Period. Per our watch commander who handles that location or area where this so-called party happened,” he added. “There was no police report filed.”

On Sunday night, Arnold tweeted that Burnett had “choked” him at a pre-Emmy party and said he was filing a police report.

Reps for Arnold and Burnett did not respond to repeated requests for comment from TheWrap.

“Mark Burnett just went apes— & choked me at this huge Emmy party then he ran away with his torn Pink shirt & missing gold chain. I’m waiting for LAPD,” the actor and former “Celebrity Apprentice” contestant said in a tweet describing the incident.

When Burnett’s wife, Roma Downey, said Arnold had “ambushed” her husband and that she was bruised on her hand in their altercation, Arnold said she was lying and repeated his plans to call the police and also threatened legal action against her.

“You lie your crazy husband attacked me you psycho,” he said. “I’m filing police report & suing you for defamation.”

Bullshit. You lie your crazy husband attacked me you psycho. I’m filing police report & suing you for defamation.

While the full details of what exactly happened remain unclear, the incident occurred just days before the premiere of Arnold’s upcoming Viceland show “The Hunt for the Trump Tapes with Tom Arnold.”

The docu-series focuses on Arnold’s search for incriminating video and audio recordings of President Trump from his pre-White House days as host of the Burnett-produced reality show “The Apprentice;” there has been no evidence so far that any damning recordings exist.

Reps for Vice declined to comment on the altercation or whether the incident would affect the show’s scheduled launch date.

It’s not the first time Arnold had roped in members of Trumpland into his orbit in an attempt to plug the show. In June, he snagged a photo with ex-Trump attorney Michael Cohen, which he teased on Twitter — while promoting rumors of some partnership between the two men.

Michael Cohen didn’t say Me & him were teaming up to take down Donald Trump! Michael has enough Trump on his plate. I’m the crazy person who said Me & Michael Cohen were teaming up to take down Trump of course. I meant it. Michael doesn’t get paid by Vice #thehuntforthetrumptapes

Cohen retweeted the image but said Arnold was exploiting a chance encounter in a hotel and that he was in no way cooperating with him or the show.

“Did not discuss being on his show nor did we discuss @POTUS,” he said adding the hashtags “done” and “ridiculous”

Appreciate @TomArnold kind words about me as a great father, husband and friend. This was a chance, public encounter in the hotel lobby where he asked for a selfie. Not spending the weekend together, did not discuss being on his show nor did we discuss @POTUS. #done #ridiculous
