Funny or Die is getting into daytime TV.

Beginning this summer, Jerry O’Connell will host “Jerry O,” the company’s first foray into daytime TV. The entertainment talk/comedy series will get a three-week test run on select Fox-owned local TV stations beginning Aug. 12.

“I love daytime. I love watching it and have fallen in love with guest-hosting it. Whether asking people to ‘Cash Me Outside’ or asking them ‘How You Doin?’, daytime is a big part of my life,” O’Connell said. “I am thrilled to work with my friends at both Debmar-Mercury and Funny Or Die. I have been collaborating with both companies for years and am so excited to bring a little bit of the traditional – and something brand new – to the audience. This is going to be a fun, fun time and everyone is invited. Let’s party.”

“Jerry O” will feature a mix of celebrity interviews and specially produced comedy segments from Funny Or Die, which is producing the show with Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury.

“We are big believers in trying new concepts and excited to once again be collaborating with our friends at Fox,” said Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus. “We have come to know Jerry as a true talent whose infectious charisma and authenticity have made him a favorite of many daytime talk show fans, and we are so glad to provide him with this opportunity to shine.”

Funny or Die Mashes Up ‘Ghostbusters’ With Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Velvet Buzzsaw’ (Video)

One of the most bizarre looking new movies of 2019 is “Velvet Buzzsaw,” a horror satire starring Jake Gyllenhaal about an art critic who discovers the paintings of a newly discovered artist are haunted and capable of murder.

Funnily enough, the concept has something in common with another satirical classic, “Ghostbusters.” Ivan Reitman’s movie is also about a haunted painting, that ugly looking Vigo the Carpathian that comes to life and tries to take over the world. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together … mass hysteria! That sort of stuff.

Well getting in the “Ghostbusters” spirit after news dropped yesterday that Ivan’s son Jason Reitman is making a secret “Ghostbusters” film, Funny or Die has mashed up the latest Netflix sensation with the Bill Murray classic for a pretty convincing fake trailer.

Suddenly Gyllenhaal’s line in the film, “something goddamn strange is going on” sounds a bit more ridiculous when the “Who you gonna call” theme is playing over the top of it.

“Velvet Buzzsaw” is written and directed by Dan Gilroy and also stars Rene Russo, Toni Collette, John Malkovich, Daveed Diggs, Billy Magnussen and Natalia Dyer. It lands on Netflix Feb. 1.

Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon’s Cord Hosenbeck and Tish Cattigan will return to host the Rose Parade for Funny or Die again this year.

The duo’s chipper morning TV characters, a pair of “legendary broadcasters” who have been hosting the parade for 26 years, were last seen providing commentary on the royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle earlier this year.

“The 2019 Rose Parade Hosted by Cord & Tish” will simulcast live across Funny or Die’s website and social platforms, as well as on Twitch, on New Year’s Day at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET.

“Once again, Tish and I are delighted to be participating in the grand tradition of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Rose Parade. We are excited for the floats, marching bands, but not the horses because I am scared of them,” said Cord.

“I’m looking forward to another gorgeous morning in Pasadena full of pageantry, camaraderie and laughter!” added Tish. “And the horses really are a problem for Cord.”

“We’re excited to continue our partnership with Funny Or Die and welcome Cord and Tish back to the broadcast booth. This collaboration enhances the entertainment value and strengthens the success of the iconic and beloved Rose Parade,” said Tournament of Roses CEO David Eads.

Funny or Die Co-Founder Adam McKay Exits Company

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Adam Mckay, who founded Funny or Die with Will Ferrel and Chris Henchy in 2007, quietly stepped down from the company earlier this year, Vulture reported Friday.

In a statement provided to Vulture, McKay said his decision was prompted by a wish to focus on person projects. But he also hinted that disagreements over recent business also played a role.

“Lately, I’ve found myself increasingly drawn to stories and projects that mean a lot to me — big money, corporate entanglements and global warming. Given Funny Or Die is driven by ad revenues, I felt the time had come for me to step down,” McKay told Vulture. “I have to say I love what we created at Funny or Die and all the really fun collaborators, and I wish them the very best for the future.

“Ad revenues” appears to refer back to a disagreement McKay had with FOD in January, after the company posted a three-part web series sponsored by Shell oil and gas company. “Let me be really clear: this is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen,” McKay tweeted at the time. “I’m shocked and horrified FOD did this. More to come.”

Reps for McKay didn’t immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap.

McKay’s exit comes during a tough time for Funny or Die. In January, the company laid off an unspecified number of employees. Those layoffs came after the company shut down its New York offices which followed a staff reduction of 30 percent in 2016.

New “Saturday Night Live” cast member Ego Nwodim brings a fresh face to the late-night sketch show, and she has the funny comedy chops to back it up.

Nwodim graduated from the University of Southern California with a degree in biology and has been a regular cast member at the UCB Theatre in Los Angeles, where she performed her one-woman show, “Great Black Women … and Then There’s Me.” Her TV credits include episodes of “Living Biblically,” “Law & Order: True Crime,” “2 Broke Girls” and “Adam Ruins Everything.”

From the looks of some her work with Funny Or Die, Nwodin has experience with impressions — she does a pretty good Maya Angelou — and as part of an ensemble. Both are important aspects of sticking around studio 8H.

“I’m back to heal the country…and the world! After 5 seasons of the TV series, I knew I wanted to set the show aside in order to create some time in my schedule to pursue other projects. Now that those are taking shape, I’m truly thrilled we’ve found a way to bring ‘Billy on the Street’ back that makes so much sense for this particular show,” Eichner said in a statement. “As we all know, this is a very divisive, anxiety ridden time and I hope these new segments — featuring the most stunning roster of guests we’ve ever had — give people a small burst of joy in their timelines while allowing me to comment on culture and the world at large in the unique way this show allows me to.”

“Funny Or Die is proud to be producing the return of ‘Billy on the Street’ with our partners at Lyft, a company that understands how comedy can bring people together, which is brilliantly showcased in this popular series,” said Mike Farah, CEO of Funny Or Die. “The comedy and connection that Billy is able to create on the streets of New York City is truly extraordinary and these first videos may set the highest bar yet.”

Zach Galifianakis’ ‘Between Two Ferns’ Returns With Jerry Seinfeld, Cardi B (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Zach Galifianakis is back with a new episode of Funny or Die’s “Between Two Ferns,” featuring guests Jerry Seinfeld and Cardi B.

The last time we saw an episode of “Between Two Ferns,” Galifianakis sat down with Hillary Clinton in September 2016.

As is common with episodes of “Between Two Ferns,” this installment is extremely uncomfortable as Galifianakis grills Seinfeld on “lazy car-based non-comedy” in regards to his show “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” as well as his movie “Bee Movie” which Galifianakis says should’ve been called “D-Minus Movie.”

Halfway through the episode, Galifianakis welcomes another, “better” guest, Cardi B, and the tone of the episode shifts completely — much to Seinfeld’s awareness. Moreover, Seinfeld is forced to sit on a crate outside of the ferns.

Galifianakis gives the pregnant Cardi B a gift, telling her, “You are special, but the most important thing is that you are relevant.”
