David Spade to Host Comedy Central’s Latest Attempt at Filling Post-‘Daily Show’ Time Slot

David Spade will follow Trevor Noah’s “Daily Show” as the of host Comedy Central’s latest attempt to fill the 11:30 p.m. time slot once occupied by “The Colbert Report.”

The yet-to-be-titled nightly series will include a rotating group of Spade’s comedian and celebrity friends, while also incorporating field segments that mirror his popular Instagram stories. The show will premiere sometime later this year.

Watch Spade make the announcement via the video above.

Nothing has stuck in the 11:30 p.m. timeslot for Comedy Central since “The Colbert Report” came to a close in December 2014, so Colbert could move to CBS.

Weeks after “Colbert” ended, “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore” debuted behind Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show.” That rollout didn’t go as planned — a copyright issue forced Comedy Central to change the title from “The Minority Report.” Wilmore lasted two just seasons, bridging his “Daily Show” lead-in from the classic Stewart era to the current Trevor Noah one.

Comedy Central briefly replaced Wilmore spot with original episodes of Chris Hardwick’s “@midnight” — yes, @11:30 — until executives there settled on “The Opposition” as its new “Colbert.” That show was hosted by “Daily Show” alum Jordan Klepper and lasted just one season. Comedy Central hasn’t aired new programming in that time slot since last July.

Spade is more conservative-leaning than his 11:30 p.m. predecessors and, unlike the others, isn’t a “Daily Show” alum like Wilmore and Klepper, who were both correspondents. But Spade does have late night experience from his years on “Saturday Night Live,” where he frequently appeared on “Weekend Update” to do his “Hollywood Minute” segment.

Kate Spade’s Husband Pens First Instagram Post Since Her Death: ‘She Was Born Christmas Eve’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Andy Spade composed a tribute to his late wife, Kate Spade, on Tuesday in his first Instagram post since her death by apparent suicide last month.

He posted a picture of a Christmas tree adorned in lights, a reference to the designer’s birthday of Dec. 24.

“She was born Christmas Eve, 1962. She loved the Midwest, the desert, and the city,” he wrote.

The tree, however, also held a different meaning. Andy Spade noted that after his wife died on June 5, he and their daughter stayed with friends through the “difficult time” and decorated the tree after they found it outside the house.

“This tree was standing alone beside the house so we ordered those multicolored, old fashioned lights from Amazon or Target and another dear personal friend gave me a really long extension cord and Bea and I cut a star out of the cardboard box the lights came on and wrapped it in Reynolds wrap (TM) like we do every Christmas,” he wrote.

Andy Spade’s last Instagram post was dated May 9, just under a month before his wife’s death.

Kate Spade died June 5 of an apparent suicide at the age of 55. She was found in her Manhattan apartment. Her eponymous brand, Kate Spade New York, had more than 140 stores in the U.S.

Along with her fashion empire and world renown handbag collection, the designer also had close ties to Hollywood, as her brother-in-law (Andy Spade’s brother) was actor David Spade and her niece was “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” actress Rachel Brosnahan.

In the aftermath of her death, Andy Spade issued a statement that included details of Kate’s emotional health leading up to it.

“Kate suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. She was actively seeking help and working closely with her doctors to treat her disease, one that takes far too many lives,” he said on June 6. “We were in touch with her the night before and she sounded happy. There was no indication and no warning that she would do this. It was a complete shock. And it clearly wasn’t her. There were personal demons she was battling.”

In Netflix’s “Father of the Year,” audiences get to see David Spade’s entire backside, and he said that while he’s not in bad shape, he got some nasty reviews about his rear.

“I’m not in that bad of a shape, I lost some weight,” Spade told Howard Stern on Wednesday. “I get a couple bad Yelp reviews on my a– but overall, it’s not too bad.”

While Spade reveals his “whole ass” in the movie, as Stern says, that’s where he draws the line. The actor told Stern that he would never do full frontal nudity in a film.

“No, it doesn’t show up on film,” he said, adding that he has also never sent a “dick pic.”

Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Skyscraper’ Blazes to $1.95 Million at Thursday Box Office

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Dwayne Johnson’s “Skyscraper” grossed $1.95 million at the Thursday box office, while Sony’s “Hotel Transylvania 3” earned $2.6 million in previews.

In comparison, Johnson’s last movie “Rampage” earned $2.4 million in previews before opening to $35.8 million. Perhaps another comparison is “The Legend of Tarzan,” which earned $2.6 million in previews before grossing $38.5 million its opening weekend in 2016.

Legendary and Universal’s “Skyscraper” is looking to open in the $35 million to $40 million range, against a reported budget of $120 million.

The action film stars Johnson as Will Sawyer, a former FBI agent and amputee who gets a job as head of security for the tallest building in the world. But when terrorists attack the building and frame him for the crime, Sawyer must both clear his name and save his family from danger. Rawson Marshall Thurber wrote and directed the film, which has a 52 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. Neve Campbell also stars.

The animated film “Hotel Transylvania 3” is also opening this weekend and is expected to open in a similar range as “Skyscraper,” with both films contending against “Ant-Man and the Wasp” for the No. 1 spot. $35-40 million opening would be a solid start for “Hotel Transylvania 3,” given it had a budget of $65 million.

By comparison, the first “Hotel Transylvania” opened to $42 million in 2012, while the 2015 sequel opened to $48 million, the best opening for an animated Sony release.

“Hotel Transylvania 3” sees Count Dracula (Adam Sandler) and his family take a break from running the monster getaway spot and head on a cruise vacation. Along the way, Dracula falls in love with the ship’s captain, Ericka (Kathryn Hahn), not knowing she is the great-granddaughter of Dracula’s archrival, Abraham Van Helsing (Jim Gaffigan).

Genndy Tartakovsky directed the film and co-wrote it with Michael McCullers. The film also stars an ensemble cast featuring  Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, David Spade, Steve Buscemi, Keegan-Michael Key, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher, and Mel Brooks, all of whom reprise their roles from the previous films in the series. The film has a 59 percent RT score.

Spade was found dead in her Park Avenue Manhattan apartment on Tuesday morning after an apparent suicide, according to law enforcement officials who spoke with the Associated Press. Spade’s husband was at the scene.

Officials told the AP she left a note at the scene, but said they were not authorized to share its details.

Last year, the designer’s name brand fashion empire Kate Spade & Co. sold to Coach Inc., now named Tapestry.

Watch Kate Spade on ‘Just Shoot Me,’ Brother-in-Law David Spade’s Sitcom (Video)

The late Kate Spade was primarily known for her contributions to the world of designer handbags and couture. But did you know she also had at least one acting gig, thanks to her actor brother-in-law, David Spade, and his show “Just Shoot Me,” the ’90s sitcom about the inner-workings of a magazine covering high fashion?

Kate Spade (who was found dead of an apparent suicide Tuesday morning) married David Spade’s brother, Andy Spade, in 1994, with whom she founded Kate Spade New York in 1993. Her fame as a designer made her enough of a household name that the Peacock gave her a cameo as herself on the comedy.

The designer appears in Episode 619, “Blush Gets Some Therapy,” which originally aired on NBC on April 11, 2002.

Playing herself, Kate comes to Blush to promote the launch of her new fragrance and doesn’t miss a beat while following along with the actors’ quips. She even takes a fake, accidental stomp on the foot from Finch (David Spade), and earns the nickname “bag hag” from Nina (Wendie Malick)

Here’s the synopsis for the installment: The Blush staff agrees to corporate therapy after their bickering drives off a client. Dr. Drake complicates their teamwork when he advances Finch and Nina to blue binders, while Maya (Laura San Giacomo) and Elliot (Enrico Colantoni) still have their red ones.

Three guesses as to who the client they drive off is. (Don’t worry, they get her back.)

Interestingly enough, the corporate therapist (Stephen Root) in “Blush Gets Some Therapy” comes recommended by Donald Trump.

David Spade Gets Cursed out by Danielle Bregoli in ‘Gucci Flip Flops’ Clip (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Looks like Danielle Bregoli caught David Spade outside — and proceeded to curse a blue streak at him.

“Just Shoot Me!” alum Spade appears in the latest video offering from Bregoli, aka the “Cash Me Outside” girl, aka rapper Bhad Bhabie, playing a milkman who seems to catch Bregoli on a bad day — or maybe just a Tuesday.

The video for “Gucci Flip Flops” also features Lil Yachty, but the real standout is Spade, who shows up at Bregoli’s door with a delivery of moo juice, only to be received with an obscenity-laced barrage from America’s Sweetheart.

Bregoli and Spade have a history. Last year, Spade posted a photo of himself with an unimpressed-looking Bregoli on Instagram, writing, “How bow dis. ( @bhadbhabie is slightly underwhelmed to meet me ???’). Unfortunately, she stopped being famous 5 minutes before this was taken.”

Bregoli responded that she thought Spade was a waiter. Looks like she doesn’t think much of him as a milkman either.

David Spade Finally Weighs in on Kurt Cobain Mural That Looks Just Like Him

David Spade wants fans to know he has seen that Kurt Cobain mural that looks more like the comedian than the Nirvana frontman who died in 1994 at age 27

“Everyone is sending me this,” Spade tweeted on Friday.

He linked to a photo of the mural by Australian-born street artist Lushsux that he painted earlier this week on the outside of a building in Linz, Austria.

To further add to the confusion, Lushsux’s mural includes a quote (wrongly) attributed to Cobain but that instead comes from Neil Young: “It’s better to burn out than fade away.”

That quote was cited by Cobain in his suicide note.

Lushux’s piece is referencing a popular internet meme, in which people wrongly-attribute quotes to influential individuals alongside a picture of a completely different famous individual.
