Acorn TV, the streaming service focused on British television, has acquired the exclusive U.S. Premiere of Season 5 of “Line of Duty,” a series from Kew Media that was previously streaming on Hulu.

The six-episode series, which is currently in production, will make its way to the streaming platform sometime in 2019, coinciding with its BBC One premiere. Written and created by Jed Mercurio (“Bodyguard”), “Line of Duty” is produced by World Productions for BBC One.

“‘Line of Duty’ has always been one of our favorite British thrillers as creator Jed Mercurio and World Productions continue to deliver nail-biting cliffhangers with every new season. Given Season 4’s huge success on BBC One as one of the top-rated UK programs of 2017, Acorn TV has secured a major coup in acquiring the exclusive US premiere of Season 5 from our friends at Kew Media Distribution,” said Don Klees, vice president of programming for Acorn brands at RLJ Entertainment. “With the addition of Season 4 on November 26, we’re excited for our subscribers to catch-up on the latest season as we await new episodes in 2019.”

Season 4 of “Line of Duty” aired on BBC One, where it attracted more than 8 million viewers. The finale was its highest-rated ever with 9.9 million viewers, placing it among the top five dramas of 2017 across all U.K. channels.

Acorn TV is currently streaming the first three seasons and will add the fourth season with featured guest star and 2018 Emmy-award winner Thandie Newton (“Westworld”) on Monday, Nov. 26.

Emma Thompson to Star in HBO Limited Series ‘Years & Years’

Emma Thompson has been cast to star in “Years & Years” from writer Russell T. Davies, it was announced Thursday. The six-part limited series is a RED Production Company production, in co-production with HBO, BBC One and CANAL+. 

Here’s the logline for the series: “As Britain is rocked by unstable political, economic and technological advances, we follow the Lyons family as their complex lives converge on one crucial night in 2019. Then, over the next 15 years, the twists and turns of everyday life are explored as we find out if this ordinary family could ever change the world.”

Thompson will play Vivienne Rook, an outspoken celebrity turned political figure whose controversial opinions divide the nation. She’s a new breed of politician, an entertainer, a rebel, a trickster, and her rise to power leads us into an unknown future.

Thompson will be joined by Jessica Hynes, Rory Kinnear, Ruth Madeley, T’Nia Miller, Anne Reid and Russell Tovey.

Kinnear will play Stephen Lyons, a financial advisor and the family’s peacekeeper who is married to Celeste played by T’Nia Miller, (Obey, Marcella), an ambitious and opinionated accountant.

Tovey will play Daniel Lyons, a hard-working housing officer and Stephen’s brother. Hynes will play Edith, their radical, dangerous and calculating sister, who has a secret life. And Madeley will play their other sister, the very pregnant Rosie. Reid presides over the family as Muriel, imperial grandmother to the Lyons.

This is a dream cast, put together by Andy Pryor, the man who found Jodie Whittaker to be Doctor Who. I’m very lucky, and very excited to start filming,” said Davies in a press release Thursday. Production on the series begins in Manchester this week.

‘Dracula’ Mini-Series From ‘Sherlock’ Duo Coming to Netflix, BBC One

BBC One and Netflix have staked a new project from “Sherlock” creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. The UK-based network and streamer have ordered “Dracula,” a TV adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel.

The three-part 90-minute mini-series is written, executive produced and created by Moffat and Gatiss, and will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. Per Netflix, “In Transylvania in 1897, the blood drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.”

“There have always been stories about great evil,” Moffat and Gatiss said. “What’s special about ‘Dracula,’ is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.”

The series was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content and Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama. Moffat and Gatiss executive produce alongside Sue Vertue for Hartswood Films, Ben Irving for BBC and Larry Tanz for Netflix.

“Dracula” will premiere on BBC One in the UK and launch on Netflix elsewhere, and China, where the service is not available. The mini-series hails from Hartswood Films and is a co-production between BBC One and Netflix.

BBC One and Netflix have staked a new project from “Sherlock” creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss. The UK-based network and streamer have ordered “Dracula,” a TV adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel.

The three-part 90-minute mini-series is written, executive produced and created by Moffat and Gatiss, and will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. Per Netflix, “In Transylvania in 1897, the blood drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.”

“There have always been stories about great evil,” Moffat and Gatiss said. “What’s special about ‘Dracula,’ is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.”

The series was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content and Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama. Moffat and Gatiss executive produce alongside Sue Vertue for Hartswood Films, Ben Irving for BBC and Larry Tanz for Netflix.

“Dracula” will premiere on BBC One in the UK and launch on Netflix elsewhere, and China, where the service is not available. The mini-series hails from Hartswood Films and is a co-production between BBC One and Netflix.
