Inside The CW Upfront: A Super ‘Supernatural’ Sendoff, Plus Lots of Shrieking for the Jonas Brothers

Signaling the end to a very long week of upfronts, The CW brought the madness to a close on Thursday with their upfront presentation at New York City Center.

Below are seven things TheWrap took away while in attendance.

Those Stairs
Every year we are reminded that the stairs at New York City Center might be the worst and steepest in all of Manhattan. Or maybe it’s just that CW ends a very long week of upfronts — probably both.

Whatever, it’ll be easier coming down.

The Jonas Brothers Were There
The newly re-assembled Jonas Brothers — Nick, Joe and Kevin (ordered by level of attractiveness, in our opinion) — kicked off the presentation with a rendition of  two new singles — “Cool” and “Sucker.” The CW certainly knows its demo — shrieks were abound as the audience danced and whipped out phones to capture the moment. Joe joked that he “loves playing concerts at 11 a.m.” Wearing a tee-shirt, he was the only JoBro dressed for the surprisingly warm 65 degree day. Sadly, no tweens were there to appreciate it. Nick aired on the side of caution with a jacket and hoodie, while Kevin looked somewhat like a security guard in an orange windbreaker. After their performance, ad sales boss Rob Tuck graced us with lots of JoBros puns.

“Batwoman,” “Nancy Drew” and “Katy Keene” Trailers Revealed
“Move over Bruce Wayne,” CW President Mark Pedowitz said, calling star Ruby Rose “the caped crusader for a new generation” as the first trailer for new fall series “Batwoman” was revealed. Rose, who was watching the trailer for the first time, said: “that looked kinda cool.”

Newcomer Kennedy McMann was there to rep her role in “Nancy Drew,” the trailer for which was also unveiled.

“Pretty Little Liars” alum Lucy Hale was also there as the face of “Riverdale” spinoff “Katy Keene,” which will premiere during midseason.

The only returning show’s trailer we saw was for Season 2 of “All American.”

Yes, Pedowitz Made the Royal Baby-“Riverdale” Joke
“We think we know where Harry and Meghan really got the name,” Pedowitz quipped, showing a (fake) photo of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex watching “Riverdale.” He was referring to jokes made on Twitter claiming that the royal baby, Archie, was actually named after the “Riverdale” character Archie Andrews.

Super “Supernatural” Goodbye
“Supernatural,” which will end with its upcoming 15th season, got a nice sendoff Thursday from The CW. Pedowitz rolled a montage from the series and its three stars got some stage time to thank the advertisers for their support. The men expressed gratitude, joked about aging, and generally just soaked in the moment. It was a nice one.

Many Selfies Were Taken
To close out the presentation, the talent — which included “Batwoman” star Ruby Rose, “Katy Keene” star Lucy Hale, “Nancy Drew” star Kennedy McMann, “Supernatural” stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki and more — gathered on stage to take bows and also some selfies.

Short and Sweet
All in all, the whole thing clocked in at about 45 minutes, including the Jonas Brothers serenade. See you next year!
