‘Avengers: Endgame’ – Why Was Katherine Langford Cut From the Movie?

Last October, TheWrap exclusively reported that “13 Reasons Why” star Katherine Langford joined the cast of “Avengers: Endgame.” However, her scene in the blockbuster was cut. Why? Directors Joe and Anthony Russo went on the HappySadConfused podcast to discuss all things spoilers from the movie, including why Langford’s scene didn’t make the cut.

According to the Russos, Langford played an older version of Tony Stark’s daughter, Morgan, who he encounters in the future. “There was an idea that we had that Tony was going to go into the metaphysical way station that Thanos goes in when he snapped his fingers. And that there was going to be a future version of his daughter in that way station,” Joe Russo said.

Joe Russo added that Langford’s deleted scene was intended to let Stark know that his daughter would be OK, giving him solace before he died.

“The intention was that his future daughter, because these films are dealing with magic, his future daughter forgave him and sort of gave him peace to go. And the idea felt resonant. But it was just too many ideas in an overly complicated movie,” Russo said.

Anthony Russo added that the scene was cut because it confused test screen audiences.

“What we realized about it was we didn’t feel an emotional association with the adult version of his daughter. So it wasn’t ringing to us and resonating with us on an emotional level,” he said

“Avengers: Endgame” became only the fifth film to gross $2 billion worldwide after just 11 days in theaters on Saturday and, in doing so, passed the global totals for “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Never in box office history has a film raked in so much revenue in such a short time. By comparison, “Infinity War” took 11 days to hit $1 billion during its theatrical run last year, and now “Endgame” has more than doubled that amount in the same time span.
