The Russo Brothers’ currently untitled Amazon Studios franchise will begin with an “action-packed spy series, with a compelling emotional center,” the streamer announced during the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday.
Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg of Midnight Radio will serve as writers and executive producers on Anthony and Joe Russo’s previously announced “groundbreaking global event multi-series.”
The franchise will begin with the “international tentpole” spy series, followed by “multiple, connected local language series,” with the first two coming from India and Italy.
The “Avengers: Endgame” directors are set to direct multiple episodes of that series, including the first episode.
Per Amazon, the Russo’s AGBO Studios and Midnight Radio are assembling “a diverse international team” to produce the series, planned as “the first truly global television franchise.”
The streamer promises more details on the productions are coming “soon.”
Anthony and Joe Russo have sat behind the camera together for the Marvel Cinematic Universe films “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” (2014), “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) and, most recently, “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and the upcoming “Avengers: Endgame.”
On the small screen, the Russo Brothers are known for directing episodes of Mitch Hurwitz’s quirky comedy “Arrested Development” (a gig for which they won an Emmy) and Dan Harmon’s “Community.”
