Aaron Rodgers just scored a deal to executive produce and develop a film project at Amazon Studios called “Work Horses.”

Rodgers will executive produce the film about college football with Heisman trophy winner Desmond Howard and Anthony Hemingway (“Red Tails”), an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

Hemingway will direct “Work Horses,” which highlights the drama resulting from the intensely competitive college football world, as well as probes how the surrounding schools and institutions profit off of unpaid student athletes as they struggle off the field.

Matthew King will pen the screenplay, and Rodgers and Howard will executive produce with Ryan Rottman. Hemingway will produce along with Abram Booty, a former NFL and college athlete, and Nate Raabe.

Rodgers is a two-time NFL MVP currently playing with the Green Bay Packers. Howard is a Heisman Trophy winner from 1991 and the MVP of Super Bowl XXXI. He’s currently a college football analyst for ESPN. Hemingway is the director of “Red Tails” and many TV projects, including most recently “The Purge” series and “Underground,” as well as a pair of episodes of “The Wire.”

Desmond Howard and Aaron Rodgers are repped by CAA. Anthony Hemingway is repped by WME and attorney Tom Hoberman. Matt King is repped by Verve and McKuin Frankel.

Deadline was first to report.
