“More royal, more problems,” seems to be the motto the characters at the center of Matthew Weiner’s “The Romanoffs” are living by.
In the latest trailer for the upcoming Amazon Prime anthology series, a slew of people believe themselves to be descendants of the famous Russian royal family — including Diane Lane, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Amanda Peet, and Kathryn Hahn. And these souls find themselves in the middle of (possibly self-inflicted) drama due to their lineage.
“Michael, there are so many people out there with your background and I guess they’re proud, but they’re really f—ed up,” one character says to another in a voiceover. Another (possible) Romanoff laments: “Boy, you’d think that royal blood dilutes over time, but the poison survives.”
From the creator of “Mad Men,” “The Romanoffs” is a contemporary anthology series set around the globe featuring eight separate stories about people who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family. It stars Aaron Eckhart, Noah Wyle, Lane, Isabelle Huppert, Hendricks, Slattery, Peet, Jack Huston, Hahn, Paul Reiser and Andrew Rannells.
The series is written and executive produced by Weiner and “Mad Men” alum Semi Chellas. Co-executive producers include Kriss Turner Towner (“The Bernie Mac Show”), Blake McCormick (“Mad Men”) and Kathy Ciric (“Z: The Beginning of Everything”). Also joining the series from the old “Mad Men” team are Andre Jacquemetton and Maria Jacquemetton, who will act as consulting producers and writers.
