What happens when you cast two of the most beloved indie actresses in the story of one of America’s most infamous murders? “Lizzie” has the answer. Starring Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart, the drama tells the true story of Lizzie Borden, who became the main suspect in the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Sevigny, who appeared in Andrew Haigh’s “Lean on Pete” earlier this year, stars in the title role, while Stewart plays Bridget Sullivan, a housemaid who engaged in a secret love affair with Borden. The supporting cast includes Jamey Sheridan, Fiona Shaw, Kim Dickens, and Denis O’Hare. “Lizzie” is directed by Craig William Macneill, the indie filmmaker best known for the psychological horror movie “The Boy.”
Saban Films and Roadside Attractions will release LIZZIE in theaters September 14, 2018. The movie debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. Watch the trailer below.
