Here Are 3 Oscars Best Picture Flub Conspiracy Theories

“La La Land” was erroneously named the Best Picture winner at the 2017 Oscars on Sunday night — but was it just one big prank by host Jimmy Kimmel?

That’s at least what one conspiracy theory suggests, 12 hours after Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the wrong winner when “Moonlight” ultimately took home the big prize of the night.

The Oscars’ accounting firm, PwC, released a statement taking the blame for the error that led to “La La Land” being incorrectly named the Best Picture. While they are still investigating how it happened, Beatty said he had been given a card that said Emma Stone won for Best Actress, but the actress herself said she had been in possession of her card the entire time.

“I want to tell you what happened,” Beatty said. “I opened the envelope and it said Emma Stone, ‘La La Land.’ That’s why I took such a long look at Faye and at you. I wasn’t trying to be funny.”

He is also known for his Kids’ Halloween Candy prank and has been in an ongoing prank war with neighbors John Krasinski and Emily Blunt. Many took to Twitter to suggest this was just another one of Kimmel’s elaborate jokes.
