Two things: The delightful soundtrack for Kelly Fremon Craig’s new release “The Edge of Seventeen” does not feature a) The classic Stevie Nicks track from which it borrows its title or b) A song from its star Hailee Steinfeld, who also happens to have her own — very respectable! — pop music career, in addition to her long-running work on the big screen.
But don’t let that stop you from checking out the soundtrack, which is now streaming on Spotify, as it still features a hearty and exciting mix of talents as diverse as Aimee Mann, Two Door Cinema Club, Phantogram and Santigold. Ah, to be young again.
It’s no surprise that the film features such a robust soundtrack — after all, high school-set movies about wild and wooly protagonists like Steinfeld’s Nadine who often use their pop cultural likes and dislikes as a way of separating themselves from the crowd so often do just that — and it’s filled with infectious jams and fun new tracks that will undoubtedly appeal to the pissed off teenager in all of us. “The Edge of Seventeen” is in theaters now. You really, really, really should go see it.
