In the first White House briefing in more than a week, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders declined to get out in front of President Donald Trump’s tweets as to whether he might pardon his personal attorney Michael Cohen. When one report noted that it seemed she had not closed the door on the idea of Trump pardoning Cohen, she shot back, "It's hard to close a door on something that hasn't taken place," adding “We don’t like to comment on hypotheticals” and that she had…

Jimmy Kimmel: If Trump Is Innocent, ‘Why Does It Matter if Cohen Flips?’

The story of Michael Cohen is sticking with us for the duration, and Jimmy Kimmel had some interesting thoughts about the latest development: that some folks in Donald Trump’s inner circle are apparently worried that Cohen, in the wake of the FBI raid on his office and home last week, will seek a deal with investigators and spill the beans on Donald Trump.

“The bigliest concern for Team Trump right now — the story that is reportedly driving him to the edge — is whether or not his personal lawyer Michael Cohen is going to ‘flip’ on him. Cohen has been under federal investigation for months, and many of Trump’s closest friends and advisers are worried that he’ll make a deal to tell federal prosecutors everything he knows,” Kimmel said.

“One of the President’s former lawyers told Trump that, on a scale of one to 100, where 100 represents full protection of the president, Cohen ‘isn’t even at a 1.’ Which, I don’t know about that. I mean, Does this look like the face of someone who is going to crack under pressure from federal investigators? I don’t think so. He looks like a dog that got caught peeing on the rug. But who knows. Michael Cohen once said he’d take a bullet for Donald Trump. And Robert Mueller was like, ‘Oh, great! Stand right there. You want a cigarette or anything?’ “

Kimmel then expressed a pretty keen observation about the whole thing: that their concern over whether Cohen will flip sure makes it seem like Trump must be guilty of something.

“Trump confidantes are openly concerned that Cohen might flip. Which, I think that alone is interesting? I mean, if he isn’t guilty of anything, why does it matter if he flips? Flip away! Flip like an acrobat!” Kimmel joked.

That aside, Kimmel also wondered why anything would think somebody would stay loyal to Trump.

“But here’s the thing — almost no one is loyal to Donald Trump, because Donald Trump isn’t loyal to them. He cheats in business, he cheats in golf, he cheats in marriage. He definitely cheats on his taxes, that’s why we haven’t seen them,” Kimmel said. “He throws everybody who works for him under the bus eventually. ‘Loyalty’ to Donald Trump means, ‘You scratch my back, and then we’re done.’ “

Kimmel then played a clip of a reporter asking Trump about the situation, to which Trump responded by talking about something else entirely.

“Thank you, everybody. I hope you saw the crowds in key west. they’ve never seen anything like that. It was really very inspirational. And what we just witnessed was incredible. Those crowds coming in, I think even the media will have to say that was quite something,” Trump said in the clip.

“That was quite something, he ignored the question,” Kimmel said. “And went into yet another monologue about how big his crowds were. Someday, I feel like he’ll be in prison going, ‘You should have seen them, all the way back to the edge, they were chanting my name.’ “

‘SNL’: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller Do ‘Meet the Parents’ as Robert Mueller and Trump’s Lawyer (Video)

Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller made a surprise appearance in the politically-charged cold open of “SNL,” playing Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Donald Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, respectively.

Stiller’s Cohen found himself taking a lie detector test, administered by De Niro’s Mueller, and the pair rehashed a similar scene from their hit comedy “Meet the Parents.”

But first, Stiller’sCohen interrupted a meeting between Attorney General Jeff Sessions, played by Kate McKinnon, and Vice President Mike Pence, played by Beck Bennett. The pair lamented the tough week the Trump administration was having, with Sessions in particular expecting to get raided by Mueller at any moment.

The FBI this week raided offices belonging to Cohen, who paid off Stormy Daniels as part of a non-disclosure agreement, and also negotiated a 1.6 million settlement between a major Republican donor and his mistress.

“We’re in a real pickle here, Jeff,” Bennett’s Pence said. “And you know how uncomfortable I am around pickles.”

A moment later, Stiller appeared as Cohen.

“Can you believe what they’re doing to poor Mr. Trump?” Cohen asked Sessions and Pence. “It’s a disgrace! This whole raid was a complete violation of attorney-criminal privilege.”

“Well, if you have nothing to hide, then you have nothing to worry about,” McKinnon’s Sessions replied.

“Is that a joke?” Cohen demanded. “We got a real problem here, Jeff. You know how much evidence I have in my office? I’m Donald Trump’s lawyer! I got a whole hard drive that’s just labeled ‘Yikes.’”

Sessions and Pence told Cohen they’d asked him there to meet someone else. When Cohen went down the hall, he discovered who was waiting for him: De Niro playing Robert Mueller. As Cohen came into the room, he realized that Mueller was setting him up for a lie detector test — just like in “Meet the Parents.”

“Just relax, Mr. Cohen,” De Niro’s Mueller said. “If you’re innocent, you have nothing to worry about. I’ll start with some easy ones. how’d you like that pee-pee tape?”

Mueller continued with a few softball questions, and then established that Cohen paid $130,000 to Daniels. When Mueller asked if Trump knew about the NDA, Cohen said Trump didn’t — causing the lie detector to go a little crazy.

At one point, Stiller’s Cohen noted Mueller was trying to “milk people for information.”

“Milk?” Mueller asked.

“Yeah, you know, like a goat or a cow … or a cat,” Cohen replied, referencing a joke from “Meet the Parents.” “You know, you can milk anything with nipples.”

Sarah Sanders Slams ‘Hack’ James Comey: His Book ‘Belongs in the Bargain Bin’ (Video)

Sarah Sanders says James Comey’s book “belongs in the bargain bin of the fiction section,” and that firing James Comey will be one of Trump’s greatest achievements https://t.co/OCpi2SagXs https://t.co/DhvUbw3d4h

— CNN (@CNN) April 13, 2018

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders won’t be reading James Comey’s upcoming book, telling reporters at Friday’s press briefing that the tome was the work of a “disgraced partisan hack” and destined for the “bargain bin.”

“The American people see right through the blatant lies of a self-admitted leaker. This is nothing more than a poorly executed PR stunt by Comey to desperately rehabilitate his tattered reputation and enrich his own bank account by peddling a book that belongs in the bargain bin,” she said.

“Instead of being remembered as a dedicated servant in the pursuit of justice, like so many of his colleagues at the FBI, Comey will be remembered as a disgraced partisan hack that broke his sacred trust with the President of the United States, the dedicated agents of the FBI and the American people– who he vowed to faithfully serve,” added Sanders.

“One of the president’s greatest achievements will go down as firing director James Comey,” she said, topping off the diatribe.

Comey is gearing up to storm American television next week to promote his new book, “A Higher Calling.” The vitriol from Sanders Friday echoed President Trump — who exploded at his former FBI director earlier this morning.

“James Comey is a proven LEAKER & LIAR. Virtually everyone in Washington thought he should be fired for the terrible job he did-until he was, in fact, fired. He leaked CLASSIFIED information, for which he should be prosecuted. He lied to Congress under OATH,” wrote the president in a tweet.

“He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a terrible Director of the FBI. His handling of the Crooked Hillary Clinton case, and the events surrounding it, will go down as one of the worst “botch jobs” of history. It was my great honor to fire James Comey!,” Trump added.

It proved to be an opening salvo.

In a hint of what’s to come, ABC has spent the week leaking salacious nuggets of an exclusive interview between Comey and “Good Morning America” host George Stephanopoulos, including Comey’s belief that the so called Trump “pee tape” incident could be real.

The interview is scheduled to air on Sunday.

Once a scourge to liberals for his role in the Clinton email investigation, Comey gradually fell out of favor with conservatives as he led the FBI investigation into possible collusion between Russia and the Trump presidential campaign. President Trump ultimately fired Comey, which happened before special counsel Robert Mueller was appointed to head up the investigation into the president and possible collusion with Russia.

‘Morning Joe’ Demands Fox News Apologize to Robert Mueller: ‘You Are Attacking the United States’

The set of “Morning Joe” was especially feisty on Friday, with host Joe Scarborough offering a lengthy denunciation of Fox News and conservatives for their attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller.

“When you start comparing Robert Mueller to Stalin or Hitler, you are not attacking Robert Mueller, you are attacking the United States of America, you are attacking the United States Constitution,” Scarborough said after playing a clip of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Fox News blasting the FBI for using “Stalin” and “Gestapo” tactics.

“You owe Robert Mueller an apology, you owe the men and women of the FBI an apology — and you owe the American people an apology,” said Scarborough in between many dramatic pauses.”

Gingrich is a Fox News contributor.

“I ask those leading Fox News, I ask Republicans on Capitol Hill, conservatives across America, are you really comfortable attacking law enforcement officers and personnel who were protecting your children against the next ISIS terror attack on American soil, comparing those FBI agents to Joseph Stalin, a man who killed between 25 and 40 million of his own people?” said Scarborough.

Comparisons to Stalin — as well as Mao Zedong, Pol Pot and many other 20th century dictators — have been routine on the set of “Morning Joe” over the past year when the subject has been Donald Trump.

Scarborough himself has often compared Trump to Stalin:

“Of all the things — the shocking things the president has said, and he’s said so many, channeling Chairman Mao and Joseph Stalin by calling the media ‘enemy of the people,’” he said in an October 2017 broadcast.

“Saying that First Amendment rights, saying the ability of newspapers to write what they want to write is ‘disgusting’ and someone should look into it, may be the most frightening of all.”
