Laura Dern is further fueling the “Big Little Lies” rumor mill, saying that “there’s talk” about a second season.
“There’s talk! There’s questions, there’s asking! There’s curiosities, so it would certainly be a pleasure to get to do it more,” Dern told Us Weekly.
“If they are! I mean, I love my character so much, so it would be a blast,” Dern added.
After the TV series based on Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name aired its shocking finale, fans were begging for a second season. And at the beginning of April, Witherspoon said she’s been talking to the writer and urged fans to Facebook Moriarty to tell her how much they want to see “Big Little Lies 2.”
“One of the main questions everyone keeps asking us is is there going to be a Season 2,” Witherspoon said in a Facebook Live chat in April. “We’ve been talking with the writer, and you guys should Facebook Liane Moriarty and tell her how much you want to see ‘Big Little Lies 2.’ That would be good. She’s thinking about ideas, and so we would love to hear ideas.”
Moriarty later confirmed that the producers have approached her and that she’s been trying to come up with ways to continue the story. Witherspoon further ignited the rumors when she posted an Instagram with Dern and Kidman last week, captioning the image, Spending #SundayFunday with these ladies … working on some new lies.”
Kidman has also said she wants another season. However, director Jean-Marc Vallee shut down the idea of continuing the series in multiple interviews since the finale.
“No, no, this is the perfect ending,” he insisted in an interview with Vulture. “There is no way; there’s no reason to make a Season 2. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it.”
