David Zaslav Explains Why TLC’s ’90 Day Fiance’ Is Like Bravo’s ‘Real Housewives’

David Zaslav says that TLC’s hit IP, “90 Day Fiance,” reminds him of another groundbreaking reality franchise he worked on: “The Real Housewives.”

“It reminds me of ‘Housewives’ when I was at NBC with the NBC cable group,” Zaslav Thursday said of “90 Day Fiance” during Discovery, Inc.’s third-quarter 2018 earnings call. “It’s not one show, it’s multiple shows. It runs for most of the year, it continues to grow. It also is working for us globally.”

“On Sunday night, it’s massive numbers, and it has huge social energy around it,” he added. “We think that’s sustainable.”

If the big Nielsen ratings for “90 Day Fiance” and spinoffs “90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days” and “90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After?” truly are sustainable, Discovery’s TLC could pretty much coast all weekend into Sunday night for the foreseeable future.

Zaslav made the comments about his hit TLC franchise on Discovery’s third-quarter 2018 earnings conference call, which draws investors, media-company analysts and the press. Read about Discovery’s Q3 earnings here — they were a mixed bag, but company stock (DISCA) is having a very good morning.

Andy Cohen Takes a ‘HARD PASS’ on Omarosa for ‘Real Housewives’

It doesn’t look like Omarosa Manigault Newman will be joining the “Real Housewives” franchise anytime soon.

After “Real Housewives of Dallas” star D’Andra Simmons suggested to TMZ that the former White House aide would be “an amazing” cast member on the Bravo series, executive producer Andy Cohen weighed in on Twitter to kick the idea to the curb.

“Love D’Andra but that’s a HARD PASS,” Cohen said of the idea of Manigault Newman joining the show.

“She can scrap with the best of them,” Simmons had said to TMZ.

The former “Apprentice” contestant has been making headlines this week for blasting Donald Trump and leaking tapes that she secretly recorded while working in the White House. This morning, Manigault Newman told “CBS This Morning” that she had no choice but to tape conversations in order to protect herself.

“I’m the kind of person who covers her own back. In Trump World, everyone lies. Everyone says one thing one day and they change their story the next day,” she said. “I wanted to have this type of documentation so that in the event I found myself in this position where, as you said, they’re questioning my credibility.”

Trump later called her a “dog” and praised White House chief of staff John Kelly for firing her, further stoking the news cycle.

Despite Cohen’s pass, Manigault Newman is no stranger to reality television. She appeared on three seasons of Trump’s “The Apprentice” and a season of the dating show “The Ultimate Merger.”

‘Real Housewives’ Star Ramona Singer Accused of Duping Bravo With Designer Clothes Scheme in Lawsuit

“Real Housewives of New York City” star Ramona Singer has been accused of bilking series network Bravo with a scheme to bill them for designer clothes, according to a lawsuit filed Friday against the reality TV star in New York Supreme Court.

The suit alleges that Singer “routinely” instructed her employee Lisa Taubes to “purchase designer clothes for the filming of Ms. Singer’s show, and instructed Plaintiff to submit receipts to Bravo Cable Network for reimbursement and then asked Ms. Taubes to return the clothes for refund.”

The suit also says Singer instructed Taubes to “submit fake receipts for reimbursement on clothes that she already owned and demanded Plaintiff carry out these tasks.”

Bravo isn’t the only alleged victim in the lawsuit, filed by Taubes’ agency T360. According to the suit, Taubes was stiffed on compensation for her hours worked as well as on commissions.

According to the suit, Taubes was hired by Singer’s company, RMS, “to promote and brand its sole proprietor, Ramona Singer, from January 2016 to December 2017. Defendants contracted to engage T360 as a manager for Ramona Singer to market the RMS brand, products and obtain publicity and appearances for Ramona Singer.”

However, the suit says, Singer often demanded that Taubes perform tasks outside the scope of her agreement, such as “bookkeeping, dog walking, payment of personal bills, searching for furniture and apartment decor, and other personal errands.”

Taubes was fired in December, the suit says, and pushed to sign a non-disclosure agreement. When Taubes refused, according to the suit, Singer “shoved Ms. Taubes, grabbed Ms. Taubes’ handbag and overturned the contents of the handbag.”

TheWrap has reached out to Singer’s camp for comment on the lawsuit, which seeks more than $150,000 in damages.

My actions alleged in the police report do not reflect my core values and my law abiding character. I am so grateful for the love and support that I am receiving from my family, friends and loyal supporters.”

Andy Cohen and Melissa Gorga Slapped With $30 Million Defamation Lawsuit

“Real Housewives of New Jersey” executive producer Andy Cohen and cast member Melissa Gorga have been hit with a defamation lawsuit seeking more than $30 million in damages by a woman who said she was made to look like a thief.

NBC Universal Cable is also named in the suit, filed in federal court in Florida on Wednesday.

In the suit, Jackie Beard Robinson, described as “an entrepreneur and international fashion influencer,” says that she was tapped by Gorga in 2015 to serve as manager of Envy by Melissa Gorga, which operated a boutique clothing store in New Jersey.

The partnership went south, the suit says, after Robinson discovered that Gorga “misappropriated over $37,000 from Envy without authorization, among other things,” and Robinson removed her merchandise from Envy in January 2017.

An agreement was hashed out that Robinson could sell the merchandise and keep the proceeds, according to the suit. However, Robinson contends, a very different picture of the situation was painted by Gorga and Cohen months later.

According to the suit, during the Oct. 4 airing of “Real Housewives of New Jersey,” Gorga stated that Robinson “snuck in in the middle of the night and took all he clothes.”

Compounding things, the lawsuit says, during the Oct. 4 airing of Cohen’s “Watch What Happens Live,” Cohen asked,”wow, so that lady wound up kind of ripping you off?” According to the suit, Gorga responded, “yes.”

Those assertions are false, the suit says, in part because Robinson retrieved the merchandise “in broad daylight, not during ‘the middle of the night.’ The statement that Plaintiff ‘snuck in in the middle of the night’ is false, misleading, reckless, grossly negligent, negligent and made with actual malice.”

The statements also “subjected Plaintiff to ridicule, hatred, disgust and contempt.”

‘Real Housewives’ Stars Brandi Glanville and Joanna Krups Settle Feminine ‘Odor’ Lawsuit

“Real Housewives” personalities Brandi Glanville and Joanna Krupa have cleared the air in a lawsuit over comments that Glanville made about Krupa’s feminine hygiene.

Krupa and Glanville have settled a lawsuit that Krupa brought against Glanville, after Glanville made disparaging comments about Krupa’s vaginal odor, TheWrap has confirmed.

Along with news of the settlement, an apology from Glanville was issued, in which Glanville said, “I regret ever making such statements about Joanna Krupa;”

“I want to apologize to Joanna Krupa for the statements I have made about her. I regret ever making such statements about Joanna Krupa; I also certainly never intended my statements to be taken so seriously and out of proportion,” Glanville’s statement reads. “I apologize as I never wanted my statements to affect Joanna Krupa’s reputation and I wish her nothing but continued success in life.”

While the terms of the settlement are confidential, Krupa’s attorney said that he and his client are “pleased with the settlement.”

“Real Housewives of Miami” veteran Krupa sued “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Glanville, in 2015, saying that Glanville accused her of sleeping with a married man, and of having smelly private parts.

The suit contended that during a 2013 appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live” and a subsequent appearance on the show’s YouTube channel, Glanville made defamatory comments about Krupa.

During the “Watch What Happens Live” appearance, the lawsuit said, Glanville proclaimed that Krupa had slept with Mohamed Hadid, the then-husband of “RHOBH” castmember Yolanda Foster.

Glanville went on to say that Hadid told her and Lisa Vanderpump that Krupa’s “p–sy smelled,” according to the complaint.

The lawsuit alleged that Glanville went on to again insinuate that Krupa has less-than-ideal feminine hygiene during the YouTube appearance. While discussing Krupa with host Andy Cohen, the lawsuit claimed, Glanville asked Cohen if he got food poisoning from eating bad sushi and added that, while Krupa is a “stunning” woman, “you can’t help the odor situation.”

“Mrs. Krupa has suffered and is suffering damages, including, but not limited, to emotional distress, mental anguish, humiliation, ridicule, hatred, contempt, injury or impairment to her reputation and/or standing in the community and/or embarrassment, which damages will continue to be suffered now or in the future,” the lawsuit read.

Alleging slander, slander per se and intentional infliction of emotional distress, the lawsuit said that the alleged damages that Krupa has suffered are at “a value greater than” $15,000.

Apparently, when it comes to Donald Trump, you can take the boy out of reality TV, but you can’t take reality TV out of the boy. At least that’s what Andy Cohen seems to think.

After President Trump’s latest Twitter missive on Monday, “Real Housewives” executive producer Andy Cohen weighed in to opine that the chief executive and former “Apprentice” host was taking his cue from the Bravo franchise.

“HOUSEWIVES PLAYBOOK: keep repeating the same lines over and over and over til someone listens (See: Aviva, bookgate; Kim D, strippergate),” Cohen wrote.

The “Watch What Happens Live” host was reacting to a tweet in which Trump declared, “Drain the Swamp should be changed to Drain the Sewer – it’s actually much worse than anyone ever thought, and it begins with the Fake News!”

For those lucky enough to have avoided Trump’s rhetoric, “fake news” has been a favorite rallying cry of his in response to media reports about, well, just about anything that puts him in a negative light.

In a multi-part Twitter missive Monday, Trump also took aim at Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and his former rival in the 2016 presidential election, Hillary Clinton.

Kim Richards Suffers Financial Setback in Dog-Bite Case

Looks like Kim Richards will suffer a bigger bite from her bank account than she anticipated in a dog-bite case brought against her by Ellen Catherine Rozario.

“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Richards suffered a financial setback in the case on Tuesday, after an appeals court deemed damages to Rozario “unusually low.”

Rozario sued Richards in December 2014, alleging that the reality TV star’s pit bull, Kingsley, attacked her while the former family friend was visiting Richards, resulting in bodily injury. Rozario had appealed a district court’s damages calculation in the case, and an appeals court partially granted her wishes on Tuesday.

In a memorandum published Tuesday, the appeals court said that the district court erred in arriving at emotional distress damages of $4,000 because it relied on awards from “decades-old cases.” The appeals court also noted that the emotional-distress damages were “less than Rozario’s past medical costs.”

“We reverse the award of emotional distress damages … because it was based on an incomplete analysis and, without further explanation, appears unusually low,” the court found. “On remand, the district court should reconsider the amount of damages in light of the evidence in the record.”

The appeals court also reversed the district court’s ruling on Rozario’s intentional infliction of emotional distress claim, finding that Rozario sufficiently claimed “outrageous” conduct.

“Richards not only encouraged Rozario to pet the dog, a large pit bull; she did so despite knowing that ‘the dog was dangerous and vicious’ and ‘had previously bitten and attacked a person or persons,’ and she acted ‘with the intention to cause [Rozario] severe emotional distress,’” the court’s memo reads. “A defendant’s knowledge of and failure to eliminate or warn about a danger to the plaintiff that was likely to and did result in physical injuries is sufficient to show outrageous behavior.”

There was a bright spot — sort of — for Richards, as the appeals court upheld the district court’s decision not to award Rozario punitive damages, as evidence “of a defendant’s financial condition is essential to support an award of punitive damages,” and “Rozario’s allegation that Richards is currently employed as a cast member of ‘Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ is insufficient to meet this burden.”

Frequent Liars Club? ‘Real Housewives’ Couple James and Amber Marchese Lied About Flight Fight, Airline Says

Virgin Airlines says former “Real Housewives of New Jersey” stars James and Amber Marchese are members of the frequent liars program.

In a countersuit filed Wednesday in federal court in New Jersey, Virgin America claims that the Marcheses not only fought during an April 2016 flight from Los Angeles to Newark, but lied about it afterwards.

The Marcheses filed suit against Virgin America in October, claiming that an alleged brawl that a Virgin America employee told the police about — and which caused the Marcheses to be removed from the flight  — never happened. In their suit, the Marcheses alleged defamation, negligence and false imprisonment.
