Trump Nominates Former CNN Contributor Stephen Moore to Federal Reserve Board

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

President Donald Trump nominated Stephen Miller, a former CNN contributor and campaign advisor, to the Federal Reserve Board, he announced in a tweet on Friday.

“It is my pleasure to announce that @StephenMoore, a very respected Economist, will be nominated to serve on the Fed Board,” Trump tweeted. “I have known Steve for a long time — and have no doubt that he will be an outstanding choice!”

Moore, who is a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation, co-authored a 2018 book titled, “Trumponomics: Inside the America First Plan to Revive Our Economy.” He was also a CNN contributor until recently.

CNN did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. However, CNN media reporter Brian Stelter tweeted on Friday that Moore was no longer with the network.

Moore joined CNN as a contributor in early 2017. Given this news, he is no longer with the network, a CNN spokeswoman confirms. https://t.co/v2donxatUE

— Brian Stelter (@brianstelter) March 22, 2019

Last week, Moore, who is a member of the Wall Street Journal editorial board, wrote an op-ed titled “The Fed Is a Threat to Growth,” which criticized the Fed for its rate hikes.

Moore is the latest television personalities to be appointed by Trump for a government post, joining Larry Kudlow, Heather Nauert, John Bolton and former Fox News co-president Bill Shine.

A CNN panel in January got heated after Moore suggested that federal workers were treating the government shutdown as a “paid vacation.”

Trump repeatedly slammed the Fed, specifically its chairman, Jerome Powell, his own appointee, for raising rates four times last year.

On Friday, Trump renewed his attack on the Fed, telling Fox Business that the country’s gross domestic product would have been higher had it not been for the interest rate spikes.

“If we didn’t have somebody raising interest rates and do quantitative tightening we would have been over 4 [percent] instead of at 3.1 [percent],” Trump told host Maria Bartiromo. “I’m not happy with it.”

It is my pleasure to announce that @StephenMoore, a very respected Economist, will be nominated to serve on the Fed Board. I have known Steve for a long time – and have no doubt he will be an outstanding choice!

‘Political Speed Dating’: Hollywood Donors Opt for 2020 Meet-and-Greets Before Signing Checks

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Last month, surgeon Phil Mercado and Hollywood executive Todd Quinn invited over 100 of their richest friends to sip beer, drink wine, and try to fall in love. Not in a romantic sense, but with a presidential candidate.

This time it was with Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana. Previous guests at their Hollywood Hills home have included New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar and California Sen. Kamala Harris. The couple also hope to host former Vice President Joe Biden (who has not announced his candidacy) and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke.

But no one wants to commit to anyone. “Most people want to keep their powder dry,” Mercado said.

The potential donors have the same problem as lots of Hollywood daters: There are too many attractive options, and new ones seem to pop up every day. The only thing everyone in liberal Hollywood seems to agree on is that anyone would be better than the guy they’re stuck with now.

With more than two dozen candidates either running or expected to run in the 2020 presidential race, Hollywood’s top donors are holding off on their contributions and weighing their options before making any commitments.

In 2016, the entertainment industry spent more than $86 million in donations, according to the Center for Responsive Politics, mostly on Democrats, only to see Donald Trump win the general election.

So it’s no surprise many of them are now taking a more cautious approach, according to Jack Pitney, professor of government at California’s Claremont McKenna College.

Also Read: Congressman Devin Nunes Files $250 Million Defamation Complaint Against Twitter

“It’s political speed dating,” Pitney told TheWrap. “They don’t want to spend money on a candidate who blows up or whose candidacy implodes.”

Many are trying to avoid anything serious right now, instead opting for high-powered meet-and-greets, like the one at Mercado and Quinn’s house, that don’t require anyone to sign a check to get in.

“In 2016 there was a clear frontrunner in Hillary Clinton,” Mercado said. “But this year it’s more analogous to what happened to the Republicans in the last cycle.”

For the candidates, the non-fundraising events are a chance to make their pitch to influential and wealthy supporters, while soaking up some of Hollywood’s glitz and glamour. They hope to make enough of an impression to score donations, time, or endorsements later on.

Media titan Haim Saban, a longtime Democratic Party funder and one of Hillary Clinton’s biggest donors in 2016, told TheWrap he’s “standing on the sidelines and waiting patiently to hear what everyone has to say.”

“With so many people saying so many things, it’s kind of difficult to hone in on any one person,” he said.

Saban and his wife Cheryl, a psychologist and author, donated more than $12.6 million to pro-Clinton efforts in 2016, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. But this year, he said, he may hold out until the general election before making any donations.

“I’m just going to sit back until somebody emerges who I feel shares my views of the world,” he added.

In 2016, attorney and longtime Democratic fundraiser Dana Perlman hosted “countless” events for Clinton and even canvassed for her in Iowa and Nevada. But this year, Perlman has decided to give his money directly to the the National Democratic Committee.

“I am all in with the DNC,” he told TheWrap. “Only one of them is going to  make it to the mountaintop and whoever that is I want to make sure that on Day 1 that person has the infrastructure available to her or him to immediately proceed into the general election and defeat Donald Trump.”

David Schneiderman, co-owner of Seismic Productions and longtime fundraiser, told TheWrap he too was thinking of giving his money to the party instead of the candidates.

“My allegiance changes every day,” Schneiderman said. “There are so many good candidates, it’s hard to decide.”

Schneiderman, who said he attended nine Clinton fundraisers last cycle, said he was leaning towards Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, or possibly O’Rourke. But he added that he was waiting to hear from Biden.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” he said. “I like a lot of people.”

Still, there are plenty of fundraisers in Hollywood these days. On Wednesday, director J.J. Abrams and his wife, producer Katie McGrath, hosted a fundraiser for Harris, an event co-chaired by some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including WME Entertainment’s Ari Emanuel, ICM’s Chris Silbermann, political consultant Jennifer Gonring, and producer Shonda Rhimes. According to an invite obtained by TheWrap, the evening reception is priced at $2,800 per person, with those who write and raise $10,000 listed as co-hosts.

Also on Wednesday, United Talent Agency’s Jay Sures hosted Sen. Klobuchar for fundraiser at his home.

No one can say how much money the 2020 candidates have raised so far. The Federal Election Commission requires candidates to file quarterly reports, and the first isn’t due until April.

Also Read: Democratic Party Nixes Fox News as Host of 2020 Presidential Primary Debates

But some of the candidates have released numbers for their first 24 hours following their announcements. So far, the person to beat is O’Rourke. The Texas Democrat announced Monday that his campaign hauled in an impressive $6.1 million in online donations in the 24 hours after his announcement. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders said he raised $5.9 million from more than 223,000 donors in the first 24 hours, and Harris clocked $1.5 million in donations during her campaign’s first 24 hours.

“I think there is a lot of excitement,” Mercado said. “Kamala [Harris] is of interest to a lot of people and so is Amy [Klobuchar]. We’ll probably end up seeing a clearer picture of who the frontrunners are closer to the debates. More people will announce before then and we’ll start to see more people falling in line behind their favorites.”

Dr. Howie Mandel (not the comedian), a prominent Los Angeles-based Democratic fundraiser who has attended several meet-and -greets this cycle said he believes the wait-and-see approach is “a good thing, not bad.”

“I don’t want to give money yet,” he told TheWrap. “Besides,” he said, “Hillary Clinton had more money than God and she lost.”

John Oliver Finds Jay Leno’s Call for Late-Night TV ‘Civility’ a Tad Hypocritical (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

John Oliver torched Jay Leno Sunday after the ex-“Tonight Show” host called for a return to “civility” on late-night talk shows. There was just one problem there: Leno had a never-ending string of Monica Lewinsky jokes back in the ’90s, and some of them definitely crossed into the “slut-shaming” category.

“Those jokes have not dated well in any sense of the word,” the “Last Week Tonight” host said on his show last night.

Like the time when Leno revealed a new “Dr. Seus” book, “The Slut in the Hat.” Yeah, the replacement for The Cat was Lewinsky. That’s gross, Jay.

Oliver countered that with his own Dr. Seuss spoof, “Oh, the Places You Can Go F–k Yourself, Jay Leno.” The weekly HBO show then rolled an excellent new interview between Oliver and Lewinsky.

Earlier in the cable talk-show’s main segment, Oliver slammed Fox News Channel anchor host Tucker Carlson for the way he shrugged off blowback to resurfaced crude comments he made years ago on a shock-jock radio show.

“One day you’re having dinner with your family imaging everything is fine, the next your phone is exploding with calls from reporters,” Carlson had addressed the backlash on his own show last week.

“First of all, no one having dinner with Tucker Carlson has ever imagined everything was fine,” Oliver said. “Most people’s answer to the question, ‘If you could have dinner with anyone living or dead’ is ‘Tucker Carlson, dead.’”

Trump Threatens ‘SNL’ With Federal Investigation Because They Mock Him

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Donald Trump threatened “Saturday Night Live” and other late-night shows with a federal investigation for poking fun of him, calling it in a Sunday tweet, “one sided [sic] media coverage.”

“It’s truly incredible that shows like Saturday Night Live, not funny/no talent, can spend all of their time knocking the same person (me), over & over, without so much of a mention of ‘the other side.’ Like an advertisement without consequences. Same with Late Night Shows,” the POTUS wrote.

“Should Federal Election Commission and/or FCC look into this?” he added in a subsequent tweet. “There must be Collusion with the Democrats and, of course, Russia! Such one sided [sic] media coverage, most of it Fake News. Hard to believe I won and am winning. Approval Rating 52%, 93% with Republicans. Sorry! #MAGA”

“SNL” ran a repeat Saturday of the Christmas 2018 episode in which the cold open — titled “It’s a Wonderful Trump” — had Trump get his wish that he had never become president, and the circle of people around him led happier lives as a result. The president was clearly fired up when that episode originally aired on Dec. 15, tweeting at the time, “It is nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal?”

“Comedy programs are under exactly zero legal obligation to be even-handed in their satire, regardless of whether the butt of their jokes is a political figure,” Law&Crime columnist Elura Nanos wrote Sunday. “Similarly, news programs are legally permitted to be as one-sided as they like. As an agency of the federal government, the FCC must adhere to the limitations set out by the First Amendment — which means that censoring speech based on its political content is as illegal as it gets.”

“Saturday Night Live” is a satire show that has mocked every president since Gerald Ford in 1976,  along with a number of political figures. President Trump hosted “SNL” on April 2004 and Nov. 7, 2015.

Jimmy Fallon debuted his Beto O’Rourke impression on Thursday’s “Tonight Show,” when he probably had to pound Red Bulls to keep his energy up that high. Chill with the hands, dude.

In announcing his 2020 Democratic candidacy for president of the United States of America, Fallon’s Beto described himself as being “sort of like if a compassionate head-nod turned into a person,” and “if your friend’s hot dad had the energy of a golden retriever.”

The whole time his hands were going crazy. God bless “Beto’s” wife, who pretty much hung on to her hubby’s arm for dear life throughout the entire sketch.

Brazilian TV Station Aired ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Dialogue That Supported President of Brazil (Exclusive)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

An episode of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” that aired in Brazil included “mistranslated” dialogue in which a character implies support for President of Brazil Jair Bolsonaro, TheWrap has learned exclusively.

A source close to the situation tells TheWrap that TNT Brasil — which airs the Universal Television-produced NBC sitcom in the South American country — broadcast a version of Episode 504 featuring Boyle (played by Joe Lo Truglio) positively referencing Bolsonaro in the Portuguese voiceover.

The dialogue wasn’t changed by TNT Brasil; TheWrap has learned exclusively that the episode’s dialogue, after being brought to the attention of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” showrunner Dan Goor on Twitter over the weekend, is being corrected by the dubbing company and will be reflected in all future airings.

TheWrap was told it is currently unclear exactly how the script was mistranslated to include the references.

Representatives for Universal Television and TNT Brasil did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

On Saturday, “Brooklyn Nine Nine” fan account called Brooklyn 99 Updates shared a video tweeted by fellow fan account Brooklyn 99 Brasil, which included portions of the episode in question.

“We’re so thankful @TNTBr is transmitting B99 for us Brazilian fans, but it’s so wrong that the translations are implying Boyle is a Bolsonaro supporter (he’s Brazil’s president – a more extreme version of Trump) since that’s totally against everything B99 and Boyle stand for,” read the tweet from Brooklyn 99 Updates.

Bill Maher Questions Paul Manafort’s Light Jail Sentence: ‘The White Guy Discount’ (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Bill Maher ripped into Paul Manafort on Friday, joking in his “Real Time” opening monologue that the former Trump presidential campaign chair received “the white guy discount” when he was sentenced to 47 months in prison on Thursday.

“He got off pretty easy, the sentencing guidelines said he was supposed to get 19 to 24 years — he got four,” Maher noted. “I haven’t seen a Trump supporter get off that much since Robert Kraft went to that massage parlor in Florida.”

And Maher wasn’t done needling the former Trump operative who got caught up in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. “I don’t know if Manafort has learned his lesson. His first question was, ‘Does the jumpsuit come in ostrich?’”

Elsewhere in the monologue, Maher joked about Bill Shine, the former Fox News co-president who was resigned this week as White House deputy chief of staff for communications.

“Bill Shine is Trump’s fifth — he’s had five communications directors,” Maher said. “This guy used to run Fox News, apparently he can’t get along with Trump either.”

Then he added, “He is going to be moving over to Trump’s campaign reelection headquarters, so he’s moving to Moscow.”

Surprisingly, Maher went light on jokes about President Trump and his flag-hugging performance at the Conservative Political Action Conference — though he did not the two hour, 20 minute running time of president’s speech to the far-right group.

“There were kids born at the beginning of this speech, who by the end of it were dating R. Kelly,” Maher joked.

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

In a new interview, Roseanne Barr accused Louis C.K.’s accusers of wanting to trade sexual favors for money, and said Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris “slept her way to the bottom.”

The comedian sat down with conservative commentator Candace Owens in an interview that posted on YouTube Sunday to talk politics, Hollywood, race, religion and the #MeToo movement, taking specific aim at the women who accused Louis C.K. of sexual misconduct in his hotel room.

“If you don’t run out the room, and go, ‘Excuse me, you don’t talk to me that way, you don’t do that to me, excuse me,’ and leave, but you stayed around because you’re like” — she feigned tears — “‘I thought maybe he was gonna give me a writing job,’ well you ain’t nothing but a ho.”

She added, “They’re pretending that they didn’t go to trade sexual favors for money.”

Barr called the California Democratic senator “Kama Sutra Harris.” Referring to the presidential contender’s romantic relationship with ex-San Francis Mayor Willie Brown more than 20 years ago, Owen said that Harris “slept her way to the top.”

Barr interjected, “She slept her way to the bottom.”

Barr said her insight into women is different than most because she has two sons — 23 and 40 — and five grandsons. “I know a ho when I see one,” she told Owens. “I’m telling ya, they come for my boys ’cause my boys, you know, I’m their mom and they’re, you know, we have a little bit money. So I got an eagle eye for this thing.”

Ian McShane: ‘When Asked About Race, White People Should Shut the F— Up’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Ian McShane suggests that when “white people” are asked about race, they “should shut the f— up.”

The “American Gods” star has been known to not hold back on voicing his opinions on showbiz and politics, and that proved to be true once again when discussing how the push for diversity in Hollywood has changed the conversation around race and gender.

“When asked about race, white people should shut the f— up,” he told The Telegraph this week. “What are they supposed to say? You just have to zip it.”

McShane lamented that “there can be no proper discussion of race and gender anymore,” and says part of the reason for that is the #MeToo movement, which he thinks has gone “too far.” He specifically points out Jeffrey Tambor’s ousting from “Transparent” over sexual harassment accusations as an example, though he says the actor was fired because “it all became so political.”

He also had harsh words for network TV dramas — most of which he says are “really the same show every week with a twist” – the BAFTAs, which he calls a “crapshow,” and he’s still amused that “Game of Thrones” fans got mad at him for calling the show “only tits and dragons” after his cameo appearance.

“I couldn’t believe that reaction!” he said “But that’s the problem when you have these cult-like supporters.”
The mudslinging sure hasn’t stopped McShane from getting work. In addition to “American Gods,” which has been renewed by Starz for a third season, McShane is set to star in “John Wick: Chapter 3,” the upcoming reboot of “Hellboy,” and the jazz biopic “Bolden.” He will also return to arguably his most famous role, Al Swearengen, in the TV movie return of “Deadwood” on HBO.

Maher agreed, but said that the problem is that “no one who needs to hear this is hearing it,” adding: “Do you get invited on Fox News?”

Alec Baldwin’s Latest ‘SNL’ Sketch Has Trump in Another Twitter Rant

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Another weekend, another angry tweet from Donald Trump over “Saturday Night Live.”

After Alec Baldwin returned to the NBC show to lampoon Trump’s national emergency declaration to build a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, the president fired out two tweets Sunday morning, accusing NBC of “collusion” and attacking the media as a whole.

“Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC!” read the tweet. “Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!”

He then added in a second all-caps tweet, “THE RIGGED AND CORRUPT MEDIA IS THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”

As usual, the tweets were met with derision with the most vocal anti-Trump figures on Twitter, like The Dem Coalition’s Scott Dworkin, who tweeted that “when Trump called for ‘SNL’ to be investigated for collusion today, it reminded me that he has no idea what the word collusion means.”

“I would give anything to be a fly on the wall when you’re watching ‘SNL’ and screaming at the TV,” wrote political blogger Andy Ostroy.

And actress Alyssa Milano wrote, “For the love of God, someone give this guy an audio recording of the constitution.”

The cold open sketch on “SNL” started with Baldwin’s Trump lying about his height and weight.

“I’m here to declare a very urgent, important national emergency,” he said. “This is a big one, so I don’t want to waste any time. I just had a great health exam. I’m still standing 6 foot 7, 185 pounds. Shredded.”

When a reporter played by Kyle Mooney noted that statistics have found that undocumented immigrants have a lower crime rate than American citizens, Baldwin’s Trump responded, “Those numbers are faker than this emergency.”

“Wall works. Wall makes safe,” he also said. “Abuelas and bebes unless you give me wall.”

Bill Maher Accuses Nitpicking Democrats of Bashing Kamala Harris for Prosecutions… When She Was a Prosecutor (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Bill Maher took a jab at Democrats on Friday’s “Real Time” for finding fault in 2020 presidential hopefuls like Sen. Kamala Harris.

“Let’s give them a chance. Let’s not eat our own the way we nitpicked Hillary to death, he said.

In his end-of-show “New Rules” segment, Maher called for the end of “swiping left on perfectly good presidential candidates,” adding that the pattern appeared to already be set in stone.

“Kamala Harris has already had to play defense because it’s come out that when she was a prosecutor… she prosecuted people,” he said firmly.

“Elizabeth Warren claimed to be Native American. So what? Trump claimed to be human,” he said, pointing out that the Massachusetts senator is the “champion of consumer rights in the age of income inequality.”

And Bernie Sanders? “We used to like him, but he didn’t personally chaperone everyone on his campaign, so he’s a sex monster once removed,” Maher said. “The candidate has to have tough standards for their staff, but not too tough,” he added, as a photo flashed of Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar, who has been accused of being too tough on her staff.

Stephen Colbert Hijacks Gayle King’s Ralph Northam Interview (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

“CBS This Morning” anchor Gayle King did a fine job interviewing Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, but Stephen Colbert had a few things to add.

On Monday, the “Late Show” host tagged himself into King’s conversation with the embattled politician. In the reedited-for-comedy version, Colbert had a few more questions to add about Northam’s past application of blackface — he also pressed the 59-year-old hard on the whole Michael Jackson thing.

Turns out, Northam’s not only got questionable relationship with race, he’s also got moves.

Watch Colbert’s recut of the Northam interview via the video above.

On Northam’s yearbook page in the 1980s, there is a photo of two males, one is dressed as a Klansman and the other is in blackface. After initially apologizing for the picture, Northam since denied he was in the photo, but admitted he once darkened his face for a Michael Jackson costume.

“Today, I am not ready to ask Virginians to grant me forgiveness for my past actions,” Northam had said during a press conference earlier this month, after the photo went viral. “I also do not fully expect that they will immediately believe my account of these events. Right now, I am simply asking for the opportunity to demonstrate beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person I was is not the man I am today.”

Bill Maher said on Friday’s “Real Time” that business is down at Trump Tower in New York, but a new video advertising its luscious amenities shows that it is the ideal office space… for a “Russian oligarch who need to bribe the Trump family.”

“They made a video trying to get people … to buy office space in this building,” the HBO host said. But, he wondered who, exactly, the ad was targeted for. “The only people who are going to be interested are the Russians.”

The video shows a man guiding a tour through the 58-story building, but there’s one major edit to the legit advertisement — Maher’s thick Russian accent voiceover.

“Are you a Russian oligarch who need to bribe Trump family? Then I have a deal for you. Launder your money through Trump Tower,” Maher said, adding, “Whether you need an entire floor for propaganda factory or just want room to mix poison.”

As the actor strolls by a window offering a picturesque view of Manhattan, Maher said, “Such big windows to keep open for sun or closed to murder journalists.”

The rug, Maher said, is stain resistant, “so if you have to have pee party with hookers, no stain for Robert Mueller to find.”

Citing the building’s “sexy” lobby and stairs that “move like magic,” Maher’s Russian character concluded, “Trump Tower: A great place when you want to get away…with crimes.”

‘Veep’ Showrunner Quips He’s the ‘Only One Without a Blackface Photo’ in His Yearbook

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

“Veep” showrunner David Mandel and star Julia Louis-Dreyfus had a lot of fun poking fun at U.S. politics during a panel promoting the HBO comedy’s final season at the Television Critics Association press tour Friday.

In fact, Mandel went all-in on topical jokes when giving his thoughts on real-life politicians, making a quip about Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, who has gained national attention for his admission that he dressed up in blackface in the 1980s.

“I guess there are good politicians, thank God, I will simply say,” Mandel said. “I do think where I’ve bottomed out a little bit sometimes is America. “

“This is me talking, this is not ‘Veep,’ but you go back whatever eight years ago, and Obama was in the White House and it was like, ‘Yay, Obama is in the White House! We’ve beaten racism!’” Mandel said. “And now I’m the only one without a blackface photo on his yearbook page, so, you know what I mean.”

It wasn’t the first off-color (no pun intended) joke Mandel made during the final “Veep” TCA panel. Earlier, he explained why he “gave Julia cancer.”

Conservative Critics Call Out Kimmel and Fallon’s Past Blackface (Video)

Some conservative critics are calling out late-night talk show hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon for not making jokes about Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam, who has gained national attention for his admission that he dressed up in blackface in the 1980s.

Kimmel and Fallon’s critics argue that the two may not be not condemning or mocking Northam because they have darkened their appearances in the past for comedic performances. The New York Post, Breitbart, and Fox News are among the outlets that have taken note. So has the Washington Timestwice.

Fallon did a Chris Rock impression back in his “Saturday Night Live” days around the turn of the century. His full hair and makeup included blackface. Multiple people with knowledge of the show told TheWrap that the impersonation was likely done with former cast member Rock’s blessing.

Kimmel wore dark makeup when playing Karl Malone and Oprah Winfrey on “The Man Show,” a series that ended in 2004.

Neither Kimmel nor Fallon have mentioned blackface in their monologues since the Northam news broke. But Fallon has not completely ignored the Northam scandal.

On Tuesday’s show, Fallon joked about the State of the Union, “Pretty much all the Congressional Democratic women wore white. In response, the governor of Virginia said, ‘Oh sure, when they do it, it’s OK.’”

The joke was in reference to reports that Northam appeared in a 1980s yearbook photo dressed as either a Klansman or in blackface. Northam said in a news conference over the weekend that he was not in the photo, but admitted he once darkened his face for a Michael Jackson costume.

The joke comes up around the three-minute mark below:

Three people with knowledge of Monday’s “Tonight Show” taping told TheWrap that Fallon told a Northam joke at rehearsal, but the quip did not make it to air.

Representatives for NBC and “The Tonight Show” declined to comment.

Fallon taped this week’s Thursday and Friday shows on Thursday, and did not mention Northam or blackface in either taping, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

NBC Shakes Up Tuesday Plans (Again) Due to Trump’s SOTU, This Time Affecting ‘The Village’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

NBC is rearranging its Tuesday primetime block once again because of Donald Trump’s State of the Union, and this time its new drama “The Village” that is getting pushed due to some post-POTUS speech rejiggering at the network.

Formerly set to debut on March 12 at 10 p.m., “The Village” will now premiere a week later on March 19 in the same time slot, with an episode of “New Amsterdam” taking over the 10 o’clock hour on the night the show was originally set to start. The drama’s Season 1 finale has also been moved to May 21 at 10 p.m., airing immediately after the two-hour “Voice” finale.

The programming change follows last week’s news that “This Is Us” fans will have to wait longer than expected for the NBC drama’s next episode, “Songbird Road: Part Two,” again, thanks to Trump’s address.

Originally scheduled to air tonight at 9 p.m., the Dan Fogelman-created series will now return with the conclusion to its two-parter on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 9 p.m., giving its spot to NBC’s broadcast of the SOTU this evening. The planned date for the Season 3 finale is also going to change, due to POTUS’ speech, with that installment moving to Tuesday, April 2 at 9 p.m.

When NBC made that announcement, they also shifted “The Village’s” time slot a bit — saying it wouldn’t be taking over “This Is Us” 9 o’clock hour as planned on April 2 because “This Is Us” would still be in its 9 o’clock hour after being pushed — though they didn’t mess with the premiere date at that time.

“The Village” stars Moran Atias, Dominic Chianese, Warren Christie, Frankie Faison, Jerod Haynes, Daren Kagasoff, Michaela McManus, Lorraine Toussaint and Grace Van Dien.

Here’s the official logline for the series: “The Village” follows an incredible group of people dwelling in the same Brooklyn apartment building. While these characters are not related by blood, they have become an unlikely family. As each resident grapples with their own personal struggle, their neighbors come together to support them and the show gives true meaning to the phrase “family is where you find it.”

Mike Daniels writes and executive produces, with Minkie Spiro directing and executive producing the pilot. Jessica Rhoades also executive produces.

“The Village” hails from Universal Television and 6107 Productions.

‘Real Time’: Bill Maher Warns Republicans That Climate Change Could Destroy Brett Kavanaugh’s Beer

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

On Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” Bill Maher tore into Republicans who he says ignore climate change, and warned of all the things global warming might render extinct — including Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s beer.

In the “New Rules” segment of the show, Maher started by saying America does need a wall: “A sea wall, because the ice is melting, and rising oceans are going to swallow Miami.”

Maher asked, “What is it with Republicans and the environment? They never waver in their commitment to doing nothing,” and compared projections for immigration from Mexico to those for rising carbon levels. “Carbon is killing us, Mexicans are not,” he said.

“Climate headlines of the last few years have a definite theme, which is: you know that pants-s—ting fact we told you about a few years ago? Well s— more,” Maher continued. But, he said, the “tiny, tiny glimmer of hope” is that a majority of Americans now accept that climate change is a real threat — and those numbers could go up as people realize it could destroy things they like, like booze.

“The traditional wine regions of France, Italy and Napa Valley could all be too hot to grow grapes by 2050. And then where will alcoholics go on vacation? With no more wine, men trying to impress their dinner dates will have to burn money at the table. Priests will have to get children in the mood with music.”

Maher than got to Kavanaugh. Hotter climates, he said, “also make it harder to grow hops, which make beer. What is Brett Kavanaugh gonna drink with Squee?”

Finally, after mentioning several food items that could be affected, like coffee, maple syrup and bananas, Maher ended the bit on a bleak joke:

“We’re a breakfast item away from losing the grand slam.”
