Hurricane Irma: Famous Floridians Urge Those in Path to ‘Stay Calm and Strong’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

As Hurricane Irma storms past Cuba and heads toward the southern tip of Florida, famous names who either grew up or have homes in the Sunshine State have taken to Twitter to offer prayers and support to those in the line of destruction.

“Thinking of all our Florida friends near our winter home and elsewhere. Be safe, you guys. Weather the storm,” wrote Stephen King.

“Prayers of solace & support to those already impacted by ‘Irma’ & bracing ourselves for what’s coming. Let us pray! Strength, Floridians,” tweeted Gloria Estefan.

Celebs Pay Tribute to Service Members on Memorial Day

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Now in its one hundred and forty-ninth year (established formally as a national holiday in 1868), Memorial day honors those who have died in military service to the United States. Based on several traditions, including those of Freed slaves immediately after the American Civil War, it has become the official start of Summer season in the U.S., but it remains a solemn occasion, especially for those who have lost loved ones in military service.

So it is that like many fellow citizens, celebrities took to social media today to commemorate the fallen. Tributes ranged from the solemn, to (in the case of rap music superstar Pitbull) somewhat weird, but all thanks those who died defending the country. Read on for a sampling of Memorial Day thanks and tributes from the entertainment community.
