People Magazine Renames ‘Most Beautiful’ Issue, Puts Pink on Cover

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

After People Magazine announced on Tuesday that it would be renaming its “Most Beautiful” issue, the magazine put Pink on the cover of the now-titled “The Beautiful Issue.”

“The Beautiful Issue” features “41 pages of gorgeous, inspiring stars.” The cover shows Pink and her two kids, Jameson Moon and Willow Sage.

“Over the years the name of the issue has evolved (’50 Most Beautiful,’ ‘Most Beautiful Woman,’ etc.), but the words ‘Most Beautiful’ have always been part of the title,” wrote Jess Cagle in an editor’s note. “This year we’re renaming it ‘The Beautiful Issue’ — to make clear that the issue is not a beauty contest. Nothing else has changed. As always it will feature beautiful women (and a few men) of all shapes, sizes and colors, and it will celebrate the most beautiful qualities of all: strength, humanity and artistry.”

At the time of the publication of the editor’s note, Cagle teased the cover as a woman “who checks all those boxes. She’s a performer, mother and role model whose honesty, humor, confidence and sheer star power make her one of the most beloved and fascinating entertainers on the plane.”

Pink joins previous cover stars like Michelle Pfeiffer, Lupita Nyong’o and Julia Roberts.

Blake Shelton’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Title Sparks Mockery on Twitter, ‘Deep Hurt’ From Mike Huckabee

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Congratulations, Blake Shelton — you’re People’s “Sexiest Man Alive”! But Twitter is just a wee bit divided over the choice.

“The Voice” coach and Gwen Stefani’s beau Shelton was handed the honors by People this year, succeeding last year’s honoree Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Twitter users, as they tend to do, fired up their accounts to weigh in on Shelton’s honor, with a number of them expressing deep disappointment.

Among the naysayers: Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who lamented, “Nursing a DEEP hurt today. Was passed over by @people magazine again for sexiest man alive honor that went to @blakeshelton . I sent in photos and everything. Oh well there’s next year. “

Huckabee wasn’t alone in questioning the choice.

“Donald Trump is presidential; Jeff Sessions is honest; Roy Moore is a Christian; and Blake Shelton is the “Sexiest Man Alive.” It’s like America has totally stopped trying,” another Twitter user wrote.

“Somebody tell me how Blake Shelton won #SexiestManAlive when there are people like Charlie Hunnam out there?!?!” another critic asked.

“Blake Shelton is not the sexiest man alive. Sorry, People,” read another response.

“How can you trust straight people when they chose Blake Shelton as the sexiest among them,” went another quizzical reaction to the choice.

Barry Manilow on Coming Out: ‘I Have Not Read One Negative Response’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Pop icon Barry Manilow spoke out about his sexuality for the first time in a series of interviews where he talks about his nearly 40-year relationship with his manager and his hesitation to come out as gay.

The 73-year-old crooner, who has been known for keeping his private life separate from his professional one, is the subject of a People cover story in which he opens up his home and talks about his relationships.

His manager, Garry Kief, has been by his side for decades, but the two kept their relationship secret. Kief and Manilow got married in a surprise private ceremony in 2015, but Manilow still didn’t officially come out. He told People that he never planned to make his marriage public due to potential response and to his own personal preference.

“I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay. So I never did anything,” Manilow told People.

“This is my life, we’ve been together for all these years,” Manilow said to Entertainment Tonight. “Everybody knows that we’re a team. Everybody that I know knows. So it never really dawned on me to say anything about it. I mean, I’m a very private guy.”

Of course the news seeped out via unnamed sources to People and by friends, such as Suzanne Somers who confirmed the wedding on “Watch What Happens Live.” However, according to him, the fan response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I have not read one negative response,” Manilow told Entertainment Tonight. “To me it is so moving, it is so deep for me, that these strangers were so happy that I was happy, that I wasn’t alone.”

Time, People Cancel White House Correspondents’ Dinner Party

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Time Inc. publications People and Time magazines are following peers including Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, and Bloomberg in calling off their yearly celebrations the night before first “nerd prom” of the Trump administration — the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

“Time Inc. will not be hosting its annual Time/People party at the St. Regis during this year’s WHCA weekend,” a Time Inc. spokesperson said in a statement. “As usual, Time will be participating in the WHCA dinner. People will be making a donation to the WHCA in lieu of tables at the dinner.”

Vanity Fair and The New Yorker called off their events in January, while Bloomberg cancelled its planned party at the home of France’s Ambassador to the United States Gérard Araud on Feb. 24 — the same day White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer barred certain media outlets from participating in a press briefing.

Trump, who was the target of some brutal barbs from President Barack Obama at the 2015 event, has bashed the media since the beginning of his campaign, branding certain outlets — most notably CNN — as “fake news” and singling out reporters by name. Washington Post media columnist Margaret Sullivan has suggested the White House Correspondents’ Association call off the whole thing.

“This year we have decided to focus on supporting the White House Correspondents’ Association, which plays a crucial role in advocating for the broadest possible access for the press at the White House,” Alan Murray, Time Inc.’s chief content officer, said in a statement.

Dwayne Johnson Follows Up ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Honors With Sexiest Man-nequin Challenge (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Having secured Sexiest Man Alive honors on Tuesday, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson went one better, attempting to pull off the Sexiest Man-nequin Challenge.

Wrestler-turned-movie star Johnson was announced as People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive on Tuesday, and to celebrate scoring the annual title, he indulged in the Mannequin Challenge viral craze.

Despite his seeming tendency toward perpetual motion, Johnson attempted to stand still for his video contribution to the craze. As is often the case, Johnson’s bid was set to Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles.”

The video posted to The Rock’s YouTube account Tuesday captured Johnson and crew freezing up as the athlete-entertainer participated in a photo-shoot and hung out backstage at “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” where his “Sexiest Man” honor was announced.

When DeGeneres asked him if this new title would change him in any way, Johnson replied, “What this means is I still have to drive in my pickup truck and change Jasmine’s diapers, but I’m the sexiest man alive!”

Johnson is only the second person of color to be named Sexiest Man Alive. The other was Denzel Washington in 1996. Other winners include Sean Connery, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Channing Tatum and Chris Hemsworth.

Melania Trump Demands Retraction From People Regarding Reporter’s Claims About Donald

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

While Donald Trump goes on the attack against The New York Times, Melania Trump is focused on People Magazine.

The GOP candidate’s wife has demanded that the publication retract and apologize for a story posted on People.com Wednesday night in which a reporter claimed that she had been “physically attacked” by Donald Trump in 2005 while interviewing the couple at their Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

In a letter sent by Trump attorney Charles Harder and posted on Melania’s Twitter page, the legal team claims that Natasha Stoynof’s first person account of her experience is filled with “false statements.”

The attorney specifically points to a paragraph in which Stoynof says she bumped into Melania outside of Trump Tower at a later date.

“The true facts are these: Mrs. Trump did not encounter Ms. Stoynoff on the street, or have any conversation with her. The two are not friends and were never friends or even friendly,” Harder wrote.

He also stated that if the article is not corrected within 24 hours, Melania would “consider her legal options.”

Earlier in the explosive People column, Stoynoff said she had walked into a room alone with Donald while at the estate, and “Trump shut the door behind us. I turned around, and within seconds, he was pushing me against the wall, and forcing his tongue down my throat,” she recalled. “Now, I’m a tall, strapping girl who grew up wrestling two giant brothers. I even once sparred with Mike Tyson. It takes a lot to push me.

“But Trump is much bigger — a looming figure — and he was fast, taking me by surprise, and throwing me off balance. I was stunned. And I was grateful when Trump’s longtime butler burst into the room a minute later, as I tried to unpin myself,” she continued.
The incident happened around the same time as the Billy Bush interview, and a year after Donald and Melania were married.
Charles Harder did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.

Re: Melania Trump – Demand for Retraction and Apology

Dear Mr. Cagle and Ms Stoynoff:

This law firm is litigation counsel for Melania Trump. We write in connection with certain of the false statements int he story authored by Natasha Stoynoff and published by People Online on or about October 12, 2016 bearing the headline, “Physically Attacked by Donald Trump – a PEOPLE Writer’s Own Harrowing Story” (the “Story”). The Story is located at the URL address: http://people.com/politics/donald-trump-attacked-people-writer/

The following statements in the Story, among others, are false and completely fictionalized. We therefore demand that you immediately and permanently remove each of these statements from the Story, and print a prominent retraction and apology:

1. “That winter, I actually bumped into Melania on Fifth Avenue, in front of Trump Tower as she walked into the building, carrying baby Barron.”
2. “‘Natasha, why don’t we see you anymore?’ she asked, giving me a hug.”
3. “I was quiet and smiled, telling her I’d missed her, and I squeezed little Barron’s foot.”

The true facts are these: Mrs. Trump did not encounter Ms. Stoynoff on the street, nor have any conversation with her. The two are not friends and were never friends or even friendly.

At the time in question, Mrs. Trump would not even have recognized Ms. Stoynoff if they had encountered one another on the street.

Your publication of the false statements is actionable and gives rise to claims of damages. Please confirm in writing within twenty-four (24) hours of the transmission of this letter that the foregoing demands will be, and are being, fully complied with. Failure to do so will require Mrs. Trump to consider her legal options.

This letter is not intended as a full or complete statement of all relevant facts or applicable law, and nothing herein is intended as, nor should it be deemed to constitute, a waiver or relinquishment of any of my client’s rights, remedies, claims or causes of action, all of which are hereby expressly reserved.
