Sam Rockwell, Octavia Spencer, Allison Janney to Star in ‘The Heart’

Sam Rockwell, Octavia Spencer and Allison Janney have joined the cast of “The Heart,” the next film from “The Descendants” screenwriters Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.

Faxon and Rash will direct the film from their original script, and Kevin Walsh and Ryan Stowell are producing via their The Walsh Company banner.

“The Heart” tells the story of Joe (Rockwell) and Lucy (Spencer) who, while desperate for cash, take the job of delivering a human heart from New York to Florida in 24 hours. When they realize that their delivery is destined for a black-market buyer who illegally skipped the donor list, they attempt to reroute it to its rightful recipient, but they are soon hunted down by multiple insane criminals — including the greedy millionaire buyer, his scorned brother, and Lucy’s own drug-dealing ex-boss (Janney).

Sierra/Affinity will handle the international sales of “The Heart” at the 2019 European Film Market in Berlin. Principal photography of the project will start at the end of 2019.

Faxon and Rash are currently in production on “Downhill” for Fox Searchlight starring Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

‘Friends From College’ Renewed for Season 2 by Netflix

“Friends From College” is heading back to town.

Netflix has renewed the comedy from co-creators Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco for an eight-episode second season.

The series centers on a group of Harvard pals played by Keegan-Michael Key (Ethan), Cobie Smulders (Lisa), Annie Parisse (Sam), Nat Faxon (Nick), Fred Savage (Max) and Jae Suh Park (Marianne).

Stoller (“Neighbors”) directs, and Delbanco is a writer on the series that debuted its first season last month.

“Friends From College” joins other recently renewed Netflix series “Ozark,” “GLOW” and “Iron Fist.”

Focus Features to Acquire ‘Thoroughbred’

Focus Features is closing in on acquiring “Thoroughbred,” after some competitive bidding, TheWrap has learned.

The deal is reportedly in the $5 million range for world rights after the film made its premiere on Saturday at the Library Center Theatre and drew interest from buyers that included The Orchard and Netflix.

“Thoroughbred” is written and directed by Cory Finley and stars Olivia Cooke, Anya Taylor-Joy, Paul Sparks, Francie Swift, Kaili Vernoff, and features the final on-screen appearance of Anton Yelchin who died in a tragic accident last year.

“Thoroughbred” focuses on two teenage girls in suburban Connecticut who rekindle an unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. In the process, they learn that neither is what she seems to be — and that a murder might solve both of their problems.

The film was produced by Andrew Duncan, Alex Saks, Kevin Walsh, Nat Faxon and Jim Rash.

Executive Producers are Ryan Stowell, Ted Deiker and Declan Baldwin.
