Andrew Garfield to Star in Gia Coppola’s Love-Triangle Romance ‘Mainstream’

Andrew Garfield is set to star in “Mainstream,” director Gia Coppola’s followup to her 2013 indie drama “Palo Alto,” an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The “Breathe” and “Silence” actor will co-star opposite Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”), Jason Schwartzman (“Rushmore”) and Nat Wolff (“Paper Towns”). Filming is expected to begin by the end of the year.

“Mainstream,” which Coppola co-wrote with Tom Stuart, is an eccentric, modern romantic drama about a love-triangle set in an internet age.

CAA Media Finance is handling domestic sales on “Mainstream,” with Wild Bunch handling foreign sales as they introduce the film at the American Film Market.

Automatik’s Fred Berger (“La La Land”) is producing. Robert Schwartzman, Holly Wiersma, and American Zoetrope will serve as executive producers on the film.

Coppola’s first film “Palo Alto” was based on a book by James Franco and starred Franco alongside Emma Roberts and Jack Kilmer. This is just the second feature film for Coppola, who is a niece to directors Sofia Coppola and Roman Coppola.

Garfield last starred in this year’s “Under the Silver Lake” from director David Robert Mitchell.

Coppola is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment, and Garfield is repped by CAA and Gordon & French.

Lena Dunham Joins Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Cast

Lena Dunham has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap. Dunham will play the role of Gypsy. This is Dunham’s first major feature film role.

In addition, Austin Butler has joined the cast as Tex, Maya Hawke will play fictional character Flower Child, and Lorenza Izzo will play Francesca Capucci, a glamorous Italian movie star.

Quentin Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” visits 1969 Los Angeles, where onetime TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) make their way in an industry they hardly recognize anymore.  The ninth film from the writer-director features a large ensemble cast and multiple storylines in a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age.

The film is written and directed by Tarantino. Producers are David Heyman, Tarantino, and Shannon McIntosh.

Sony has slated the film to be released on July 26, 2019.

Dunham is represented by CAA. Her credits include “Camping,” “Girls,” “American Horry Story: Cult,” and Tiny Furniture.

Butler is represented by WME and Anonymous Content. He just starred opposite Denzel Washington in the Tony Award-nominated Broadway production of “The iceman Cometh.”

Izzo is represented by Authentic and Paradigm. Her credits include “The House with a Clock in Its Walls” and “Life Itself.”

‘Stranger Things 3’ Adds Cary Elwes and Jake Busey to Cast

“Stranger Things 3” has added Cary Elwes (“The Princess Bride”) and Jake Busey (“Starship Troopers”) to its cast.

Elwes, who is pictured above, will play Mayor Kline. Busey’s character is named Bruce — that’s about all we know at this point.

Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos made the announcement today at the streaming service’s What’s Next event in Rome.

As previously announced, Maya Hawke will be one of the third season’s new leads and Priah Ferguson has been promoted to a recurring role.

“Stranger Things” is executive produced by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, Iain Paterson, and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps. The “Stranger Things 3” premiere date has not yet been revealed.
