Ariana Grande Tops List of Most Streamed Female Artists on Apple Music (Exclusive)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Ariana Grande is the most-streamed female artist in the four-year history of Apple Music, the service announced on Friday — just in time for International Women’s Day.

The 25-year-old “Thank U, Next” singer edges out Taylor Swift, Rihanna and Beyoncé on Apple Music’s “Top Women in Streaming” list, announced as the service is set to showcase several visionary female artists during March on its radio shows and curated playlists.

Grande is the first and only female artist to cross the 3 billion total streams threshold since Apple Music launched in mid-2015, according to an individual familiar with its streaming figures. She’s joined by Swift and Rihanna as the only three women in the 2 Billion or More Streams Club.

Of course, Grande’s streaming numbers have been goosed by the success of her latest album, the Scooter Braun-produced “Thank U, Next,” which set an Apple Music record in its own right when it debuted in February with 185.4 million worldwide streams in its first week — the most by any male or female pop artist ever. That easily tops Ed Sheeran’s 107.5 million global streams — the most for a male pop artist — in the first week after “Divide” came out in 2017.

Nicki Minaj, meanwhile, edged out her rival Cardi B to close out the top 5. Cardi B still has some bragging rights, though: Her 2018 album “Invasion of Privacy” set an Apple Music record as the most streamed female R&B/hip-hop album in its first week of release, pulling in more than 100 million global streams.

Other noteworthy results include Lady Gaga coming in at number nine, Selena Gomez at number 14, and 17-year-old singer-songwriter Billie Eilish cracking the top 20. And for anyone wondering who is Apple Music’s most streamed artist, male or female, of all time, it’s Drake.

Mariah Carey to Perform in Saudi Arabia Despite Growing Backlash

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Mariah Carey is sticking to her plans to perform in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, despite growing backlash from women’s groups to cancel the concert over the Kingdom’s human rights abuses.

Carey is the biggest name to perform in the Kingdom since its ruler, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, began loosening the country’s long-held restrictions on entertainment and pop culture.

“When presented with the offer to perform for an international and mixed gender audience in Saudi Arabia, Mariah accepted the opportunity as a positive step towards the dissolution of gender segregation,” the singer’s publicists told TheWrap in a statement. “As a female songwriter with a message of empowerment & equality, she looks forward to bringing inspiration & encouragement to all audiences.”

“As the first female international artist to perform in Saudi Arabia, Mariah recognizes the cultural significance of this event and will continue to support global efforts towards equality for all,” the statement went on to say.

The singer was criticized Thursday by activists who say her concert plays into Saudi Arabia’s attempt to rehabilitate its image after the brutal killing of dissident and Washington Post journalist, Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi officials last year.  (The CIA concluded that the crown prince was directly involved in Khashoggi’s murder, Saudi Arabia has denied his involvement.)

Saudi Arabia has been known to silence its dissenters. According to The Human Rights Watch, Saudi authorities “systematically discriminate against women and religious minorities.”

The organization says Saudi Arabia carried out 146 executions, 59 for non-violent drug crimes in 2017.

“Don’t artwash Saudi crimes: Cancel your performance in Saudi Arabia,” Code Pink, a women’s advocacy group and vocal critic of the crown prince, wrote in a statement. “Doesn’t she know Saudi Arabia is one of the most repressive and murderous regimes on the planet?”

In an op-ed published by CNN, the brother of jailed activist Loujain al-Hathloul wrote that his sister has been whipped, electrocuted and sexually harassed in a Saudi jail

“Recently, my parents were able to visit Loujain in jail,” he wrote. “She started to talk about how they took her from Dhahban prison at midnight to what is known as the ‘hotel.’  She described it as a ‘palace of terror’ that is 10 minutes away from the prison.”

Last year, the Kingdom’s prestigious economic Future Investment Initiative conference, known as “Davos in the desert.” turned into a PR disaster for the country after many of the events most prominent attendees canceled their appearance following Khashoggi’s murder.

Mariah Carey Wins the 10-Year Challenge: ‘Time Is Not Something I Acknowledge’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

When you’re Mariah Carey, you don’t need to obey the standard confinements of the latest social media craze.

That was apparent on Wednesday, when Carey participated in the “10 year challenge” — where people post pictures of themselves from a decade ago and compare it to what they look like today — with a twist of her own.

Carey passed on sharing a decade-old photo posing with her Jack Russell terrier in favor of posting the same one, from “some point prior to today,” in her words, twice on Twitter.

“I don’t get this 10 year challenge thing,” Carey tweeted. “Time is not something I acknowledge.”

Carey’s age defiance was naturally embraced by many of her fans on Twitter, with many responding with some variation of “yaasss queen.”

Several others seemed to have already converted to the “time is not something I acknowledge” lifestyle: “queen of recognizing time is a social construct,” replied one fan.

Some Twitter users went ahead and shared old pictures of Carey  — who is nearing her 50th birthday — themselves. “This is more than 10 years but I can’t see the difference,” tweeted one user. “Timeless beauty!”

Let it also be known I will be adopting Carey’s “time is not something acknowledge” mantra myself, as I quickly push towards 30. Thanks for the inspiration, Mariah!

9 ‘Mean Girls’ Secrets Revealed, From Amy Poehler’s Fake Boobs to Lindsay Lohan’s Feud

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Over a decade after their movie debuted in theaters and became an instant comedy classic, the cast of “Mean Girls” was reunited once again in 2014 for an Entertainment Weekly photo shoot.

The stars of the film, Lindsay Lohan, Tina Fey, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, were dressed like true Plastics in heels and high-end threads for the reunion.

The women then sat down to share stories about what went down on the set, including never-before-revealed details about the movie.

Fans of the 2004 film will be crushed to know just how close they came to seeing a “Mean Girls” sequel or who Fey had in mind originally to play Cady Heron.

TheWrap has assembled nine revelations the ladies divulged during their interviews below.

1. Tina Fey now regrets not doing a “Mean Girls” sequel
“At the time we did want to start the conversation about the sequel, and for whatever reason I was like, ‘No!!! We shouldn’t do that!’” Fey said. “Now I look back and I’m like, ‘Why?’ But now, no — it’s too late.”

2. Lindsay Lohan wanted to be Regina George, Rachel McAdams auditioned for Cady and Amanda Seyfried was just happy to get cast
Lohan admitted that she went to war with director Mark Waters over giving her the part of Plastic Queen Regina, saying: “I was still 17 years old and I wanted to be the cool girl on set.” The part eventually went to McAdams, even though she had auditioned to play Cady Heron. When Seyfried got the part of Karen Smith, she was just relieved to have any role in the film.

“I just wanted to be in the movie. To be asked to play Karen, I was like, ‘Great! Whatever!’” Seyfried says.

3. Tina Fey had to be convinced that Lindsay Lohan was right for the part of Cady
“At some point I was like, “Oh, should Lindsay be Regina?” Fey said. “And then Mark and Lorne [Michaels] had the good sense to say, ‘No, she gets to turn into Regina.’ You work backward from that and you cast her as Cady, knowing she could get to that point of being Regina, but you let her be the innocent side, too.”

4. How did they get Amy Poehler’s pet Chihuahua in the film to nibble on her nipples?
“They, like, pinned a piece of a cocktail wiener into her bra,” McAdams said. “I thought this dog was going to tear her apart. It was very effective.”

5. Mariah Carey loves “Mean Girls” and tells Lindsay Lohan about it all the time
“Mariah and I have the same makeup artist,” Lohan said. “Whenever I see her, she does always say, ‘On Wednesdays, I wear pink.’ She loves that movie.

6. Glenn Cocco is a real person
“I tried to use real names in writing because it’s just easier” Fey said about writing the script. “My older brother’s good friend is Glenn Cocco. He’s a film editor in Los Angeles, and I imagine it’s a pain in the butt for him. Someone said to me you could buy a shirt at Target that says ‘You go, Glenn Cocco!’ That was unexpected.”

7. Lindsay Lohan tried to explain her beef with Hilary Duff to her elder co-stars
“She tried to explain to Amy and me her beef with Hilary Duff, but we couldn’t crack it,” Fey said. “But we were pretending we could follow it.”

8. Tina Fey was driven in a Winnebago from “SNL” in New York to the “Mean Girls” set in Toronto
“I don’t remember if I was weird about flying or if it was the timing, but sometimes I would go do ‘SNL,’ then I would get in a Winnebago at two in the morning and be driven to Toronto,” Fey said. “It’s so stupid.”

9. Lacey Chabert’s character Gretchen Wieners was supposed to be thin and gangly
“I thought I was really wrong for Gretchen,” Chabert said. “The character description physically was very different from me.”

Cher Eats Cow Tongue to Avoid Saying One Nice Thing About Donald Trump (Video)

Cher does not like Donald Trump — and she’s putting her disdain where her mouth is.

To avoid saying “one nice thing” about the president, the “Believe” singer ate some cow tongue on Tuesday’s “Late Late Show” from London’s Central Hall Westminster stage.

“There’s nothing nice about him,” she decided. “I can’t say one nice thing about him.”

To add some context here, Cher was CBS personality James Corden’s guest last night, when the two played some “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts.” The game basically gives a participant the option to share something they’d like to keep close to the vest or to eat something horrible.

On Tuesday’s edition, no secrets were spilled, but plenty of gross things were consumed.

Earlier, Corden ate a 1,000-year-old egg to avoid saying who was the drunkest person at the royal wedding, for example. Then Cher ate a dried caterpillar to keep her Top-5 lovers on the down-low.
