Kid Rock Stuns 350 Walmart Customers by Paying $81K in Layaway Accounts

All Walmart customers want for Christmas is Kid Rock.

Taking a page from filmmaker Tyler Perry, the “All Summer Long” rapper got into the holiday spirit Saturday, paying off all 350 of the layaway accounts at a Tennessee Walmart to the tune of  $81,000, according to the store manager.

“Kudos to Kid Rock for making such a gesture in our community,” Walmart manager Tom Meyer told the Tennessean. “I think that’s a pretty Nashville proud moment.”

Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, said he was inspired by Perry, who tweeted Thursday that he had paid off the layaway accounts at two separate Georgia locations.

“@tylerperry Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville. Merry Christmas and God Bless You!” Rock wrote in a Friday tweet.

According to Meyer, Rock called his store Friday morning saying he wanted to pay off the balances on its layaway accounts. Rock’s manager then delivered the check.

The items on layaway are likely Christmas gifts, according to Meyer, who said the program is only available to customers during the holidays.

Customers were shocked as they were handed a card that explained Rock was picking up the tab.

“Merry Christmas from your neighbor!” the cards read.  One customer tweeted Rock saying: “We were gonna have to give up our kids christmas this year because we needed to pay rent but now, because of you, our babies will have a good christmas!! So thank you so much!!”

Kid Rock has property in Whites Creek, a neighborhood in Nashville.

Nashville Christmas Parade Funder Threatens Legal Action Over Kid Rock’s Ouster as Grand Marshal (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

The attorney for Steve Smith, the owner of Tootsies Orchid Lounge and the majority funder of the Nashville Christmas Parade, said his client may take legal action over Kid Rock being booted as grand marshal of Saturday’s event.

Smith and Tootsies donates $250,000 to the annual parade efforts, Bryan Lewis said during a Friday night press conference, which he believes makes his client the “majority stockholder” of the event. Despite that status, Lewis says parade producer Tennessee Holiday Productions, which booted Rock from the honorary post after he called “The View” co-host Joy Behar a “bitch,” did not consult Smith in the decision.

Rock was replaced in the role by James Shaw Jr., an electrical engineer hailed as a hero after disarming a rifle-wielding gunman during a mass shooting at a local Waffle House earlier this year.

“Kid Rock intends to show up tomorrow for the parade and be the grand marshal,” Lewis told reporters last night.

It appears that Rock showed up but was not reinstated as grand marshal. The musician, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, posted the following Saturday morning on his Facebook page:

Well folks, it is official…My parade has been rained on!

But in the end, it is not about me. It is about the kids and the wonderful work they do at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

Either way, myself, family and especially my granddaughter, are gonna enjoy today.

Sending well wishes for a break in the rain and a successful parade.

I love Nashville and the people she holds.

But remember…Rock n Roll Never Forgets!!

“We are doing our due diligence and looking into legal options as well… if Kid Rock is excluded from this,” Lewis had said last night, noting that the courthouse does not reopen until Monday morning.

Lewis said that Rock’s manager had reached out to Behar’s manager on Friday and offered to make her co-grand marshal of the Nashville parade. TheWrap emailed her management company and agents to ask if Behar had received such a request, but we did not immediately hear back.

Kid Rock is no longer leading Nashville’s Christmas parade after calling “The View” host Joy Behar a “bitch” in a recent FOX interview.

According to Nashville News Channel 5, the parade organizers have decided not to continue with Kid Rock as the grand marshal since the position should “personify the spirit of Nashville.” Waffle House hero James Shaw Jr. has been named the new honoree.

Rock’s exit comes after the Nashville mayor’s office issued a statement saying that Mayor David Briley may skip the parade due to Kid Rock’s involvement.

“The View” co-host Joy Behar took the high road on Friday after country-rock star Kid Rock called her a “bitch” during a live appearance on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

“This bitch and these bitches would be happy to have you on the show and have a beer,” she said on ABC’s morning gab-fest. “I’m having a difficult week, so much attention on me.”

“You know what’s great, Fox had to apologize for something,” Behar added, noting the fulsome apologies offered on-air by “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy after Rock’s crass diss of “that Joy Behar bitch.”

Fellow “View” co-host Abby Huntsman, who used to co-host “Fox & Friends,” said she sympathized with the show’s dilemma in the moment and said Doocy made the best of an awkward situation. “It’s important to point out that they handled it well,” she said.

Rock threw a curveball during his live “Fox & Friends” interview interview when he crassly referred to Behar — just moments after calling for Americans to be more accepting and tolerant of one another.

“People need to calm down, get a little less politically correct and I would say you know, love everybody,” he told Doocy on the live show. “Except, screw that Joy Behar bitch.”

Back in the New York studio, show co-host Ainsley Earhardt offered an additional apology. “We do need to apologize. We don’t feel that way about Joy Behar,” she said. “We don’t condone that language.”

Reps for Fox News did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Seth Meyers Returns to “SNL” Weekend Update, Colin Jost Blames Him for Trump Becoming President (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

“Late Night With Seth Meyers” was off this week with Meyers hosting “SNL,” so you just knew he’d have to return to the Weekend Update desk where he made a name for himself for so long to get in a few rants about the week’s political happenings. And so near the end of this week’s Weekend Update, Meyers took the stage and sat between current hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che to sling some jokes about Donald Trump’s meeting with Kanye West in the Oval Office.

“So Trump met Kanye in the Oval Office? Really? Don’t you have better things to do? And by the way, when I say that, I’m really not sure which of you I’m talking to,” Meyers quipped. “The only place those two should meet is in group. It should be in the basement of a church and a dude with an earring and a leather bracelet should be saying, ‘I’m so glad you both decided to come back.’ I mean really.”

The four-minute segment saw Meyers deliver a line, then Jost, then Meyers again, then Che, and so forth. In all, Meyers got four parts of the Weekend Update breakdown of the Trump-Kanye Meeting. Here are Meyers’ parts:

Also Read: ‘SNL’ Gives Us a Glimpse at Bill Cosby’s Life in Prison So Far (Video)

On Kid Rock also being at the White House that day: “And, really, you know how crazy Thursday at the White House was? Kid Rock was also there, and no one cared. It was almost a relief to hear someone as reasonable as Kid Rock was in the White House. You know how hard it is to make Kid Rock seem like an adult in the room? His first name is Kid.”

On Kanye hugging Trump: “And then Kanye ran behind the desk, hugged Trump and said, ‘I love this guy right here.’ Really, look at this photo. Man, it is so rare that you can see black people and white supremacists betrayed in the exact same moment.”

On Kanye’s Trump hat: “For an egomaniac, Kanye talks a lot about Trump. The fact that he wore a Trump hat to meet Trump is so thirsty. I mean I didn’t wear Yeezys when I met Kanye because I didn’t want to look desperate and no one would sell me Yeezys.”

Also Read: ‘SNL’: Alec Baldwin’s Trump Returns to Have Lunch With Kanye – ‘He’s Black Me!’ (Video)

After all of that, Jost ended the segment with a joke at Meyers’ expense, bringing up his stint hosting the White House Correspondents dinner in which Meyers roasted Trump with Trump in the audience.

“It’s really pretty simple — Kanye wants to be Trump’s famous friend because Obama called Kanye a jackass. And if the president of the United States called you a jackass you would go, ‘You know who I like? The next president.’ So in a way, Obama is to blame for all of this the same way Seth is to blame for making fun of Trump so much that he decided to become president.”

You can watch all of Meyers’ return to Weekend Update on this week’s “SNL” in the video embedded at the top of this post.

Kanye West Pitches ‘iPlane 1’ to President Trump as Air Force One Replacement

No more parties on Air Force One.

Kanye West, while surrounded by reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday, pitched President Trump on “iPlane 1,” a hydrogen-powered replacement for Air Force One, accompanied by mock renderings of the new plane on his iPhone.

“We want to start with this — I brought a gift with me right here. This right here is the iPlane 1. It’s a hydrogen-powered airplane, and this is what our president should be flying in,” West said. “We’re going to have Apple, an American company, work on this plane.”

West, while wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, leaned over the president’s desk to show him a picture of iPlane 1 — which, just for clarification, wasn’t mentioned at Apple’s product launch last month.

“We’ll get rid of Air Force One,” Trump, turning to reporters, apparently joked. “Can we get rid of Air Force One?”

West, while rushing to unlock his phone, accidentally revealed his passcode: 0-0-0-0-0-0. He also gave Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, a peek.

President Trump, Flanked by Kid Rock, Signs Music Modernization Act

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

President Donald Trump, surrounded by a small collection of supporters from the music industry, including Kid Rock and Beach Boys original member Mike Love, signed legislation on Wednesday revamping how artists are paid in the streaming era.

The Music Modernization Act, which was dormant for years before being ushered through Congress with bipartisan support this summer, promises to help songwriters on several fronts, including better licensing and royalty payments for artists and producers from streaming services. The legislation will also ensure that artists receive royalties on songs created before 1972.

“The Music Modernization Act closes loopholes in our digital royalties laws to ensure that songwriters, artists and producers receive fair payment for licensing of music,” Trump said on Wednesday. “I’ve been reading about this for many years and never thought I’d be involved in it, but I got involved in it. They were treated very unfairly. They’re not going to be treated unfairly anymore.”

“Everybody knows this business of music is a pretty dirty business,” Kid Rock said while taking the microphone. “But this is a great start to protect songwriters, producers, engineers — the unsung heroes behind many of these songs that go out there.”

In addition to Rock and Love, Doobie Brothers guitarist Jeff “Skunk” Baxter, and country singers Craig Morgan and John Rich were also in attendance. Kanye West, who was expected to be on hand, wasn’t there for the announcement but was scheduled to have lunch with the president.

Love praised Trump as a “big supporter” of musicians at the press conference and shared Trump tried to assist Whitney Houston, who battled substance abuse issues before her 2012 death.

“I remember you tried your best to help get Whitney Houston in some kind of shape,” Love said. “[Trump] tried your best to help Whitney. And she’s not the only one.”

Kid Rock Hits Campaign Trail With Donald Trump Jr

Talk about a dynamic duo.

Kid Rock and Donald Trump Jr. are set to hit the campaign trail for Republican U.S. Senate candidate John James, as he looks to overcome a double-digit deficit in Michigan.

The vocally conservative Rock will perform two songs at a rally for James on Oct. 17 at Flagstar Strand Theater in Pontiac, according to The Detroit News. The president’s oldest son will also be joined by his girlfriend and former Fox News personality Kimberly Guilfoyle.

An Army veteran who flew helicopters during the Iraq War, James is a pro-Second Amendment, pro-life conservative who has aligned himself with President Trump’s agenda. “Actions speak louder than words,” James said on his website, “and from tax relief for working families to the elimination of overbearing government regulations, President Trump is keeping his promises to the American people.”

Kid Rock had already thrown his support behind James months earlier and squashed the idea he was considering a run for the Senate himself. Talk of entering politics full-time was all “fun and games,” Rock said in June, according to the Detroit Free Press.

James is facing an uphill battle as he looks to unseat Sen. Debbie Stabenow. Stabenow, a Democrat, holds a 53 percent to 35 percent polling lead, according to a Detroit News poll from last week.

Kid Rock’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction Has Fans Wrestling With Disappointment

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Congratulations, Kid Rock; you’re being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Now the bad news: Judging from the reaction on Twitter, you might be one of the few people who’s pumped about the induction.

The WWE announced Monday that the “Devil Without a Cause” musician and former pretend political aspirant would be the celebrity inductee to its Hall of Fame for the class of 2018.

The decision put many viewers’ brains in a choke-hold, as they grappled with the decision on social media.

Many critics of the choice offered their thoughts on more deserving candidates for the induction.

“Kid Rock in the Hall of Fame before Chyna and Owen Hart? All kid Rock did was sing Takers American Badass theme,” one detractor observed.

“Lemmy, Cyndi Lauper and Muhammad Ali aren’t in the WWE Hall of Fame. Kid Rock will be in three weeks. What the actual f—?” went another lament.

“They’re. Inducting. Kid. Rock. Into. The. WWE. Hall. Of. Fame. Before. Chyna. Let that sink in. Also, no regrets so far over missing this year’s Mania, so good job WWE,” another unsatisfied customer wrote.

Another non-fan likened the musician to — ouch! — a “disgusting lizard man” and suggested that — double-ouch! — Limp Bizkit singer Fred Durst is a more worthy recipient of the honor.

“1) kid rock is a disgusting lizard man & he deserves nothing more than to be trapped at the bottom of a well with nothing but malort to nourish him,” the response read. “2) how dare they induct this jerkoff before the great FRED DURST. he was in a wwe video game. should be automatic induction.”

We’d make a “Let’s get ready to grumble” crack here, but clearly Twitter users are already on it.

Remember that whole “Kid Rock for U.S. Senate” thing? While the campaign was all a fake, the money the Michigan-based singer raised selling buttons and t-shirts was very real — especially to CRNC Action.

The College Republican National Committee affiliate was the beneficiary of $122,000 worth of merchandise sales, according to the group and Rock’s publicist.

“All of the money raised from the political merchandise was sent directly to CRNC Action,” Jay Jones, a rep for the “All Summer Long” singer told The Detroit News.

CRNC Action president Ted Dooley said a donation of about $122,000 was made in early December. Dooley confirmed that it was his group who staffed the voter registration tables at Rock’s concerts last summer.

“The work was pretty much like other voter registration work we do — set up and man voter registration booths, collect the registration forms, and submit them — except a lot more fun,” Dooley said.

Dooley and Jones did not immediately respond to TheWrap‘s request for comment.
