America’s Least-Liked TV Media Personality Is …

Poor Megyn Kelly. The host of the third hour of NBC’s “Today” show and of summer series “Sunday Night With Megyn Kelly” is America’s least-liked TV media personality, according to TheWrap‘s latest study of Q Scores.

Q Scores are an entertainment industry-used measurement of a celebrity or a brand’s likability based on semi-regular surveys of 25- to 54-year-olds. The higher the Positive Q Score, the more survey respondents marked the individual or company as being among their favorites. The lower — well, just ask Megyn.

Kelly, who jumped from a successful primetime show on Fox News last year to a lucrative new gig at NBC, has struggled a bit at her new network. As TheWrap previously reported, “Megyn Kelly Today” ratings in the key demo were down nearly 30 percent in January compared to 2017, when Tamron Hall and Al Roker co-hosted the “Today” hour.

While she has strong name recognition — her Familiarity score stands at a solid 41 — her Positive Q Score is a dismal 6.

Coming in just ahead of Kelly were three media stars with a Q Score of 8: Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC’s “Hardball” (with a Familiarity score of 34), MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough (Familiarity: 20) and “CBS This Morning” co-host Norah O’Donnell (Familiarity: 13).

It should be noted that in O’Donnell’s case, the Positive Q Score for anyone with a Familiarity rating below 20 should be considered unstable.

Ranking just ahead of those three were Fox News host Sean Hannity (Q Score: 10; Familiarity: 34) and Nicolle Wallace, political analyst for MSNBC and NBC News, former co-host on “The View” (Q Score: 10; Familiarity: 12).

TheWrap researched the Q Scores of 30 well-known television newscasters and hosts and ranked them in the gallery posted at the bottom of this story. For the record, we looked into 57 total TV news personalities, but almost half of them did not have Q Scores.

‘Morning Joe’ Slams James Comey for Interview: ‘Self-Interest, Not National Interest’ (Video)

James Comey didn’t change many minds on the set of “Morning Joe.” On Monday, the show regulars gathered and mostly dismissed the former FBI director’s hour-long ABC interview on Sunday evening.

“One of the unfortunate things of all of this is that it’s happening. There’s enough of a circus now” said Council on Foreign Relations chief Richard Haass. “This was self-interest, not national interest.”

Haass also suggested that Comey’s justification for his interventions in the 2016 election were “intellectually unmoored.”

“One of the biggest contradictions was when he said it would have been brutally unfair for him to have brought to the American public attention the fact that Donald Trump’s campaign was also under investigation for ties to Russia because he didn’t know if there was anything there,” offered NBC News reporter Heidi Przybyla.

“Well, what was his decision days before the election to bring to the American people the fact that there was Anthony Weiner’s laptop which also by the way they had no idea if there was anything there, any kind of information that was worth anything.”

To that point, Joe Scarborough capped it off saying that while Comey may have been in a bind, reopening the Clinton email investigation days before the election could have been handled more artfully.

“If he would have just said something like, ‘I am notifying Congress only because I am required to do so by prior agreement, however, no one should draw any conclusions from this letter, it is simply a notification,’” said Scarborough. “He didn’t do that.”

On Sunday, Comey kicked off what will be a week-long media blitz to promote his new book, “A Higher Loyalty.” The hour-long ABC special with George Stephanopoulos received mixed reviews Monday morning.

‘Morning Joe’ Demands Fox News Apologize to Robert Mueller: ‘You Are Attacking the United States’

The set of “Morning Joe” was especially feisty on Friday, with host Joe Scarborough offering a lengthy denunciation of Fox News and conservatives for their attacks on special counsel Robert Mueller.

“When you start comparing Robert Mueller to Stalin or Hitler, you are not attacking Robert Mueller, you are attacking the United States of America, you are attacking the United States Constitution,” Scarborough said after playing a clip of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Fox News blasting the FBI for using “Stalin” and “Gestapo” tactics.

“You owe Robert Mueller an apology, you owe the men and women of the FBI an apology — and you owe the American people an apology,” said Scarborough in between many dramatic pauses.”

Gingrich is a Fox News contributor.

“I ask those leading Fox News, I ask Republicans on Capitol Hill, conservatives across America, are you really comfortable attacking law enforcement officers and personnel who were protecting your children against the next ISIS terror attack on American soil, comparing those FBI agents to Joseph Stalin, a man who killed between 25 and 40 million of his own people?” said Scarborough.

Comparisons to Stalin — as well as Mao Zedong, Pol Pot and many other 20th century dictators — have been routine on the set of “Morning Joe” over the past year when the subject has been Donald Trump.

Scarborough himself has often compared Trump to Stalin:

“Of all the things — the shocking things the president has said, and he’s said so many, channeling Chairman Mao and Joseph Stalin by calling the media ‘enemy of the people,’” he said in an October 2017 broadcast.

“Saying that First Amendment rights, saying the ability of newspapers to write what they want to write is ‘disgusting’ and someone should look into it, may be the most frightening of all.”

SAG-AFTRA Slams Sinclair for Spreading ‘Fake News,’ and ‘Misdirected Criticism’ of Journalists

SAG-AFTRA came to the defense of the journalists working for Sinclair Broadcast Group on Wednesday while criticizing the company over accusations that it has been spreading “fake news.”

“The journalists who work for Sinclair Broadcast Group are hard-working and dedicated professionals who care deeply about the work that they do. Over the last couple of days, many of them have been the subject of misdirected criticism for the script Sinclair required them to read for its recent promotional campaign,” the labor union said in a statement.

“SAG-AFTRA has been in contact with Sinclair to express our concerns with this campaign, and we stand with our members and journalists everywhere in challenging corporate directives that call into question the journalistic integrity of the news presented to the public,” it said. “SAG-AFTRA opposes such directives in the interest of defending the professionalism of journalists and preserving the basic rights of a free and independent press.”

The statement comes after Sinclair Broadcast Group was accused of having local newscasters from their stations read out “fake news” and parroting far-right anti-media talking points on air.

On Monday, “Morning Joe” anchor Joe Scarborough said — in response to a viral video first spotlighted by Deadspin’s The Concourse — that the network was conducting an “unapologetic assault on truth.”

Scarborough: Trump Lies Just to Get Ann Coulter to ‘Stop Mean-Tweeting About Him’

Joe Scarborough offered a new line of Trump analysis Wednesday, suggesting that much of the president’s recent behavior — and mistruths — are now motivated by a desire to please right-wing pundit Ann Coulter.

“You think he’s lying just to try to get Ann Coulter to stop mean-tweeting about him?” Scarborough asked on the set of “Morning Joe.” “Ann Coulter knew exactly what she was doing. She tweeted at Trump. She baited him and he has done all of these remarkably stupid things over the past five or six days, just to respond to her tweet.”

“She’s so mean,” said co-host Mika Brzezinski, before Scarborough reminded her that she was being sarcastic.

The former GOP congressman was miffed (as he often is) over President Trump’s continued attack on Amazon. The president has been sounding off against the company in recent days as part of his broader war against the Washington Post. Both are controlled by Jeff Bezos.

The show’s third co-host, Willie Geist, suggested that since he isn’t a conservative to his core, Trump swung wildly, saying things in order to please his far-right base.

It’s not clear how the show settled on Ann Coulter being the source of all the recent trouble, but they were correct that the conservative fire queen has been on an anti-Trump tear in recent days.

After the president reluctantly signed a federal omnibus spending bill last month, Coulter castigated Trump, accusing him of not securing enough funding for the border wall and courting impeachment by selling out his base.

IT’S 3-D CHESS! (There’s never going to be a wall.)

At Columbia University just days later, Coulter called Trump a “shallow, lazy ignoramus.”

The “Morning Joe” panel reacted with righteous indignation Monday over a viral video of local newscasters from Sinclair-owned stations parroting far-right anti-media talking points on air. There was broad agreement on set that the video suggested an assault on some of the most fundamental American values.

“You have now really kind of an unapologetic assault on truth as we’ve understood it in the country, an assault on reason an assault on the democratic — lower case D — norms that helped us build a country that people wanted to come to and built a society that conquered the Communistic one in the most existential struggle in human history,” said Jon Meacham, the show’s resident historian — who apologized for getting so heavy on a Monday morning.
