Jussie Smollett’s Upcoming ‘Drop the Mic’ Episode Pulled Following His Arrest

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

TNT has dropped an upcoming episode of “Drop the Mic” featuring Jussie Smollett following the “Empire” star’s surrender to Chicago PD early Thursday morning on charges of filing a false police report.

“We are pulling the episode in the interest of not being exploitative of an incredibly sensitive situation,” a TNT spokesperson said in a statement to TheWrap on Thursday. “We are holding on airing his episode for now and we are replacing it with the Raven Symone vs Ron Funches and Joey McIntyre vs Joey Fatone episode.”

On the now-shelved “Drop the Mic,” Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee on “Orange Is The New Black,” faced off against Smollett in a battle and “American Idol” star Clay Aiken took on “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Sharknado” star Ian Ziering.

“Drop the Mic” executive producer and head writer Jensen Karp added in a tweet: “We had an episode of Drop The Mic this season with Jussie that you’ll now (correctly) never see, but sadly it will shelve @clayaiken, WHO WAS A VERY GOOD RAPPER (at least for now).”

Representatives for Smollett did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

This morning, Chicago PD held a press conference to give an update on Smollett’s case following his arrest. Chicago PD Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the “Empire” star staged the Jan. 29 attack — which he initially reported as a “hate crime” — because he was “dissatisfied with his salary,” and sent the letter threatening himself to Fox, the “Empire” studio.

Commander of Area Central Detectives Edward Wodnicki then gave a breakdown of the timeline and evidence that led to Smollet’s arrest, including a $3,500 check police say Smollett used to pay brothers Olabinjo (“Ola”) and Abimbola (“Abel”) Osundairo to fake the assault.

Chicago PD released Smollett’s mug shot in conjunction with the press conference. Smollett’s bond hearing is set for 1:30 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Fox said in a statement after the press conference: “We understand the seriousness of this matter and we respect the legal process. We are evaluating the situation and we are considering our options.”

TBS Orders Shaquille O’Neal-Ken Jeong Unscripted Pilot ‘Unqualified’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

How’s this for an unlikely pairing: TBS has ordered a pilot for an unscripted series starring Shaquille O’Neal and Ken Jeong where the duo will take on odd jobs.

Summoned to their temporary employment by unsuspecting people via a digital portal, “Unqualified” (working title) will follow the antics of Shaq and Jeong as they try their hands at jobs that have always intrigued them, along with a few they’d rather avoid. Sometimes Shaq and Jeong will have no clue what they’re walking into. Utilizing their wide range of talent and hustle, the duo will perform tasks such as patrolling malls as rent-a-cops, substitute teaching kindergarten, train conducting and performing as party clowns.

Earlier this year, the two had a well-received performance on TBS’ “Drop the Mic.”

“These guys made magic on ‘Drop The Mic’ together. Their chemistry is undeniable.” said Michael Bloom, senior VP of unscripted and specials for TBS and TNT. “And no doubt that magic will extend to the unwitting people who expect anything to get done when they show up.”

O’Neal and Jeong will executive produce “Unqualified” alongside Dave Kneebone, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of Abso Lutely Productions as well as Jensen Karp, Perry Rogers, Colin Smeeton, Mike Perris, and Brett Carducci.

Diddy Crashes ‘Drop the Mic’ to Hand James Corden Historic Win Over Ashton Kutcher (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

We experienced history on Tuesday’s “Late Late Show,” when James Corden actually won his own “Drop the Mic” battle for the first time. The CBS personality needed a surprise appearance from Fox’s “The Four” judge Diddy to make his victory over Ashton Kutcher official.

Here are some of the lines Corden started off strongly with:

“I heard I was battling an A-list hunk/but when I saw Ashton Kutcher/ I knew I was getting ‘Punk’d.’”

And this punch:

“You were so bad in ‘Jobs’/even Siri won’t talk to you.”

Kutcher’s best was comeback was probably this one at the very end: “You did ‘Ocean’s 8’/that’s worth mentioning/They probably should have called it ‘Ocean’s 8 Everything.’”

Get it? Because Corden is a husky man.

Helen Mirren Forces James Corden to Bow Down in Dirty ‘Drop the Mic’ (Video)

She’s a dame who doesn’t give a damn, that’s for sure.

British (and Hollywood) royalty Helen Mirren and “Late Late Show” host James Corden faced off in one of his most impressive “Drop the Mic” segment’s to date on Tuesday. Despite Mirren entering the ring wearing a crown and a robe, Corden was still convinced he could beat his fellow UK native in their rap battle.

He was sadly mistaken.

“Back home she’s considered the actress you have to fear. Ee’re in America now, Meryl Streep lives here,” Corden sang, spitting hot fire at the “queen.” “You dated Liam Neeson back in 1982. But he left you quick, guess he wasn’t taken with you.”

“He’s obsessed with my exes. Sorry, James, I’m not single. But you know I taught your little mister to tingle,” Mirren fired back, miming a NSFW gesture referencing a part of Corden’s anatomy we probably can’t describe here.

“You said that was strictly between us,” he said, embarrassed. “Played a queen six times, wow that’s real range,” he rapped, snapping back into action. “I’m not playing around. Like, you’re not Dame Judi Dench”

In the end, Mirren was declared the winner by the audience. Of course, if Corden had beaten Mirren he’d probably have both this queen, and the real queen, to answer to.

‘Full Frontal With Samantha Bee’ Renewed by TBS for 2 More Seasons

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

TBS has renewed “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” for two more seasons, the Turner Broadcasting comedy cable channel said on Thursday.

“We were fortunate to start our show in an election year, and I’m so grateful TBS has picked us up for two more seasons which will see us through the 2018 midterms and bring us into the 2020 election season,” said Bee. “It’s promising to be a real s–tshow and I am counting on our viewers to coax me out of my panic bunker and get us through it.”

“No one does political comedy like ‘Full Frontal’; a two-season pickup is an obvious decision,” added Thom Hinkle, executive vice president of original programming. “Sam and her team have been relentlessly incisive in their satire, and the awards recognition and their growing viewership reflect that. Along with new episodes, expect more specials and a lot more blazers.”
