Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Ben Stiller and Bette Midler were among the many Hollywood celebrities joining the nation in mourning the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting that left 8 people killed and 12 others injured on Saturday.

Amy Schumer tweeted her “heart is broken” in response to the attack.

Ben Stiller, in response to a clip of President Trump suggesting the shooting could’ve been thwarted if there was “protection inside,” tweeted “this is not the fault of the synagogue” and added a hashtag for gun control.

No one should have to go through airport security to go to pray in a synagogue or church or a mosque. This is not the fault of the synagogue….#Guncontrol https://t.co/WiIYqSla3s

‘Murphy Brown’ Sets All-Star Guest Lineup, Including Alums Katie Couric and Bette Midler

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

“Murphy Brown” just added several guest stars to appear on the CBS revival, including Katie Couric and Bette Midler, who appeared on the sitcom’s original run. Brooke Shields, John Larroquette and Peter Gallagher are also set to appear.

Midler will reprise her role as Caprice Morton, previously known as Caprice Feldman, Murphy’s former secretary. Now, though, Caprice has a surprising new connection to Murphy, making her, if possible, even more entitled and unbearable. Midler will appear in the Thursday, Nov. 8, episode.

Couric previously appeared on the series in 1992, attending Murphy’s baby shower. She will appear in the Thursday, Nov. 8, episode as herself, hosting a Lifetime Achievement event and running into her old friends, Murphy and Corky.

Also appearing on Nov. 8 will be Larroquette, playing Judge Nate Campbell, a kindred spirit to Murphy. Shields will play Holly Mackin Lynne, a woman who wakes up after being in a coma for years. Holly was one of Corky’s beauty pageant friends, and her experience was dubbed The Sleeping Beauty Case 10 years ago, but never solved. Shields will appear in the Thursday, Nov. 15 episode.

Gallagher will appear in the Thursday, Nov.1 episode as the notorious manspreader and conservative right-wing news anchor John Haggerty of the WOLF Network, covering an election with Avery Brown (Jake McDorman).

“Murphy Brown” stars Candice Bergen as the titular journalist, along with Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud.

“Murphy Brown” airs Thursdays at 9:30/8:30c on CBS.

Fox News Host Greg Gutfeld Compares Brett Kavanaugh Treatment to Jesus’ Crucifixion (Video)

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld took a spiritual turn Thursday night, telling viewers of “The Five” that the Brett Kavanaugh hearings reminded him of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

“Crucifixion was an important event because it was designed to establish a wall between justice and mob rule — Christ died so that the mob wouldn’t survive,” Gutfeld said, citing his 12 years of experience with the Catholic Church.

“What Democrats have tried to do is tear down the wall between justice and mob rule,” he said. “They decided to crucify someone once again.”

Also Read: Fox News Guest Candace Owens Says Kanye West Is ‘One of the Bravest Men in America’ (Video)

It’s unclear what Gutfeld meant with that “once again” line; the U.S. Democratic Party only came into existence roughly 1,800 years after Jesus’ death.

A rep for the channel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

After stepping gingerly around Kavanaugh as sexual misconduct accusations began to seep out last month against the Supreme Court nominee, the channel’s opinion hosts have increasingly thrown in for Kavanaugh, closing ranks around the judge who has vigorously proclaimed his innocence.

Earlier this week, the FBI concluded an investigation into the judge that had been demanded by Republican Jeff Flake. The bureau spoke to a number of Kavanaugh’s old acquaintances, including Mark Judge — but did not interview other potential witnesses, some of whom sent unsolicited sworn statements to the FBI, according to the New Yorker.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled his intention for a final vote on Kavanaugh by Saturday, though it remains unclear whether the judge will survive his up or down vote.

Bette Midler Apologizes for Tweets Calling Women ‘the N-Word of the World’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Bette Midler offered an apology Thursday for a tweet in which she called women “the N-word of the world.”

“The too brief investigation of allegations against Kavanaugh infuriated me,” she said in an explanation. “Angrily I tweeted w/o thinking my choice of words would be enraging to black women who doubly suffer, both by being women and by being black. I am an ally and stand with you; always have. And I apologize.”

“Women are the n-word of the world, raped, beaten, enslaved married off, worked like dumb animals; denied education and inheritance; enduring the pain and danger of childbirth and life IN SILENCE for THOUSANDS of years,” said Midler in the original tweet, which was live for about three hours before she deleted it. “They are the most disrespected creatures on earth.”

In a follow-up explainer tweet which she also later deleted, Midler said she was trying to make a point by alluding to the 1972 song “Woman Is the N– of the World” by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.

“I gather I have offended many by my last tweet. ‘Women are the…etc.’ is a quote from Yoko Ono from 1972, which I never forgot. It rang true then, and it rings true today, whether you like it or not. This is not about race, this is about the status of women; THEIR HISTORY.”

Reps for Midler did not immediately respond to request for comment from TheWrap, though a look at the comment to retweet ratio of each tweet suggests they were both on their way to infamy at the time she deleted.

Midler, a star of the screen and stage, has been an acting staple for decades. She most recently headlined as the title role in the Broadway revival of “Hello Dolly” and is remembered for notable roles in “Hocus Pocus,” “The First Wives Club,” and “Ruthless People.”

Hollywood and Media Stars ‘Dumbstruck’ Over Trump-Putin ‘#TreasonSummit’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

President Trump’s joint press conference with Vladimir Putin on Monday didn’t exactly get the reaction Trump probably hoped for. Unless what he wanted was for the trending topic to be the word “treason.”

During the presser, held at the start of a US-Russia summit in Helsinki, Trump, among other things, called for an end of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, suggested that U.S.-Russia tensions were caused by the U.S., and even kicked around the idea of the two countries working together on cyber security. While, reminder, he was standing next to Putin.

By the time the conference ended the hashtag “#TreasonSummit” was a trending topic as a wide cross section of Americans blanched at Trump’s display of, ah, comradeship with the Russian leader, including both Democratic and Republican members of congress. Joining the condemnation of the event were celebrites including Jefferey Wright, Josh Gad, John Cusack, Ellen Barkin, Judd Apatow, Bette Midler, Rob Reiner and Roseanna Arquette, and more.

“Kim Jong-un, please come through those doors, join @realDonaldTrump & Putin on this #TreasonSummit stage and take this song & dance show over the top,” Wright tweeted.

Zach Braff noted that “Treason is trending.”

Reporters and TV anchors also slammed the presser. “You have been watching perhaps one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president at a summit in front of a Russian leader truly that I’ve ever seen,” CNN’s Anderson Cooper said.

And MSNBC’s Joy Reid tweeted: “Donald Trump was just asked directly if he would denounce Russia’s attack on our election ‘with the whole world watching’ and he refused. He pivoted to attacking Clinton, demanding to know where her server went, and said he doesn’t know why Russia would attack our election.”

Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron Lead Cast for Animated ‘Addams Family’

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

MGM has unveiled the voice cast for their upcoming animated adaptation of “The Addams Family,” with Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron as the heads of the titular family, Gomez and Morticia.

Chloe Grace Moretz and Finn Wolfhard will play Gomez and Morticia’s children, Wednesday and Pugsley, while Nick Kroll will play the zany Uncle Fester and Bette Midler will play Grandmama. Newly minted Oscar winner Allison Janney will play the Addams’ arch-nemesis, Margaux Needler.

Former DreamWorks director Conrad Vernon will direct the film with Greg Tiernan, with Matt Lieberman writing the script. The film will follow the Addams Family as they prepare for an extended family reunion, only to have their creepy estate intruded upon by a very 21st century antagonist: a reality TV host bent on giving their mansion an HGTV-esque makeover into suburban normality.

“Conrad and Greg are masters of animation with the keen ability to create something both kids and their parents will enjoy for different reasons,” said Jonathan Glickman, President of MGM’s Motion Picture Group. “Adding to that a world class caliber of talent with Oscar, Charlize, Chloë, Finn, Nick, Bette and Allison – we can’t wait to bring their fresh and modern take on The Addams Family to the worldwide audience.”

Created in 1938 by New Yorker cartoonist Charles Addams, “The Addams Family” became a beloved cultural icon for its macabre, satirical take on the American Dream and the image of the suburban family with the white picket fence.

Addams’ New Yorker cartoons became the basis for a 1964 TV series on ABC, which launched “The Addams Family” into pop culture immortality with the series’ iconic, finger-snapping theme song. The show in turn inspired a pair of animated TV series and two feature films in the 1990s, which earned Anjelica Huston a pair of Golden Globe nominations for her performance as Morticia.

Vernon will produce the film with Alex Schwartz and Gail Berman of The Jackal Group. Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi and Joe Earley are executive producers; with Tabitha Shick, MGM’s Executive Director of Worldwide Motion Pictures, overseeing on behalf of the studio. Production is underway at Cinesite Studios in Vancouver.

MGM will release “The Addams Family” on Oct. 11, 2019.

Bette Midler to Return to Broadway’s ‘Hello, Dolly!’ This Summer Before Revival Closes

Read on: TheWrapTheWrap.

Bette Midler will return to her Tony-winning role in the hit musical revival “Hello, Dolly!” this summer for a final six-week run, the show’s producers announced Friday.

Original co-stars David Hyde Pierce and Gavin Creel will join her starting July 17 to wrap up the acclaimed production before it closes permanently on August 25.

Bernadette Peters and Victor Garber, who in January had replaced Midler and Hyde Pierce as matchmaker Dolly Levi and her reluctant love interest Horace Vandergelder, will conclude their runs on July 15, as scheduled.

The revival of Jerry Herman’s 1964 musical has been a monster hit at the box office, though ticket sales have taken a dip since Midler left the show. During her final week in January, the show raked in a remarkable $2.4 million, thanks in part to premium ticket sales, while sales for the week ending April 15 came in just over $1 million, still nearly three quarters the potential gross for the theater.

Directed by four-time Tony winner Jerry Zaks and choreographed by Tony winner Warren Carlyle, “Hello, Dolly!” began performances on Broadway on March 15, 2017, and officially opened on Thursday, April 20, 2017.

The revival won a total of four Tonys, including Best Musical Revival.

Peters said, “I am forever grateful to Bette for suggesting I step into the role of Dolly Levi. She was right. We both agree it is an amazing, joyful journey for us and the audience. And now I will hand the red dress back to my friend, the magnificent Bette Midler.”

Hey @GOP, you are being replaced. Not only in November 2018, but by an entire generation who will not stand for your corrupt subservience to special interests like the gun lobby. Get on board with change or get out of the way. The future is here.#MarchForOurLives pic.twitter.com/iabhTbVKVY

Out marching with the kids and families. And thinking. 60 years ago schoolchildren were trained to get under their desks and hide from the Russians. Now we’re training them again to hide. And this time from Americans. Something’s wrong here. My heart and hopes are with the kids. pic.twitter.com/bmKxWOrEER

News of Griffin’s comeback made lots of her fans very happy, including a few famous ones. Amber Tamblyn tweeted, “Love you, Kathy,” while Bette Midler went into a little more detail, writing, “Congratulations and welcome back! Love you, Kathy.
