Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald has denied he raped pop superstar Katy Perry, after a report emerged that signer Kesha accused the music producer of assaulting Perry in a lawsuit.
“Katy Perry herself confirmed that Dr. Luke did not rape her. Kesha’s accusation to the contrary — just like her other outrageous lies about Dr. Luke — is baseless and irresponsible, and it is disrespectful to both Katy Perry and Dr. Luke,” lawyers for Gottwald said in a statement on Wednesday.
“In his defamation lawsuit against Kesha, Dr. Luke seeks damages for the harm caused by these malicious falsehoods,” the statement concluded.
Reps for Perry did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment on Dr. Luke’s statement.
The rape accusation was uncovered in ongoing proceedings Gottwald is engaged in against Kesha, who was his protege and signed to his Kemosabe Records before she herself accused him of sexual and emotional abuse. The Blast first reported the Perry accusation, wherein Kesha is said to have sent text messages to colleague Lady Gaga about Gottwald’s alleged misconduct.
The text message in question, according to The Blast, saw Kesha tell Gaga that Gottwald had “raped Kathryn Hudson [professionally known as] Katy Perry.”
The accusation surrounding Perry is now the third point of contention in Gottwald’s suit against Kesha, whose hits include “Tik Tok,” “We R Who We R” and “Your Love is My Drug.”
Gottwald denies he drugged the singer, and also that he sexually assaulted her, as she has previously accused him of doing. The producer says he suffered losses from working on future Katy Perry projects of roughly $10 million, as well as harm to his reputation.
It’s unclear how much he seeks in damages overall. The case is still being argued in New York state.
