The eighth season of “Archer” introduced us to “Dreamland,” an alternate reality existing entirely within Archer’s head. At the end of Season 7, the titular hero was shot and ended up in a coma, thus introducing the new setting for Season 8. He’s been dreaming ever since, and it appears those dreams will continue for at least one more season.
In the new trailer for “Archer: Danger Island” (originally unveiled at the New York Comic-Con), viewers get their first glimpse at an entirely new world that’s only been teased in black-and-white before today.
“Archer: Danger Island” was first announced at the series’ San Diego Comic-Con panel. The subtitle for Season 9 conveys another trip back in time, as Archer & Co. will be living on a remote beach in the South Pacific during 1939. In this presumed dream-state, Archer is a seaplane pilot with an eyepatch, a parrot named Crackers (voiced by Lucky Yates, who typically plays Dr. Krieger), and accompanied by his co-pilot, Pam Poovy (Amber Nash).
The rest of the gang is there, too: Lana (Aisha Tyler) is an island princess. Mallory (Jessica Walter) is a bar owner (and she reclaims her place as Archer’s mother, after playing an unrelated mob boss last season). Charlotte (Judy Greer) also shares familiar characteristics with her former character, Carol/Cheryl/Cherlene: She’s an heiress with a massive fortune coming her way (boom, phrasing). Cyril (Chris Parnell) is now Cypert Fuchs, a British intelligence officer posing as a local on the island.
“Archer: Danger Island” will premiere April 25 on FXX. Watch the trailer below.
