Oscar winner Christoph Waltz proved surprisingly prickly when asked about his character in Alexander Payne’s new movie, “Downsizing.”

“I don’t talk about my characters — I play them,” the actor told TheWrap’s Steve Pond in a video interview at the Toronto Film Festival, joined by Payne and co-star Hong Chau.

As for why he agreed to play the five-inch-tall upstairs neighbor to Matt Damon’s newly shrunk character, Waltz explained, “I just wanted to work with Alexander and I didn’t in the end really care much what it was.”

Paramount will release “Downsizing” on Dec. 22.
