“Big Little Lies” ended its seven-episode limited run on Sunday night, but fans are already begging for more. Literally.
After a rallying cry by star and executive producer Reese Witherspoon, fans of the HBO series have taken to author Liane Moriarty‘s Facebook page asking for a follow-up to her 2014 novel and its TV series adaptation.
“One of the main questions everyone keeps asking us is is there going to be a Season 2,” Witherspoon said in a Facebook Live chat on Friday. “We’ve been talking with the writer, and you guys should Facebook Liane Moriarty and tell her how much you want to see ‘Big Little Lies 2.’ That would be good. She’s thinking about ideas, and so we would love to hear ideas.”
Viewers have taken her up on that request, leaving comments like this one: “Reese Witherspoon urged all of us who loved Big Little Lies to plead for (at least) a second season. So here it is! WE are ‘so truly madly grateful!!!!’ More Please!”
“Hi Liane! I’m a huge fan of the Big Little Lies big and show and I read you’ve been discussing some ideas for a possible season 2 with Reese Whiterspoon. PLEASE GIVE US A SEASON 2. WE NEED IT,” wrote another fan.
However, director Jean Marc Vallee has shut down the idea of continuing the series in multiple interviews since the finale.
“No, no, this is the perfect ending,” he insisted in an interview with Vulture. “There is no way; there’s no reason to make a Season 2. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a season two, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it.”
