Universal Pictures has set a January 26, 2018 release date for director Ben Young’s sci-fi thriller “Extinction,” the studio announced Monday.

Michael Peña (“Ant-Man,” “Crash”) and Lizzy Caplan (“Now You See Me 2,” “Allied”) star as a husband and wife struggling to save their family from an alien invasion.

Young (“Hounds of Love”) directs from a script by Eric Heisserer, who just earned an Oscar nomination for last year’s sci-fi-themed hit “Arrival” starring Amy Adams, as well as Spenser Cohen (upcoming “Moonfall”) and Bradley Caleb Kane (STARZ’s “Black Sails”).

“Extinction” will be produced by Todd Lieberman & David Hoberman of Mandeville (“Beauty and the Beast”).

Mandeville’s Alexander Young will executive produce, alongside Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, Erin Westerman and Kelli Konop of Good Universe (“Don’t Breathe”).
