Variety reports that Fresh Off The Boat star Constance Wu is in talks to star in a film adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s book Crazy Rich Asians. Kwan’s book—published in 2013—tells the story of three individuals navigating the world of hyper-rich families living in modern-day Singapore.
Wu would play “a lead role” in the film version of Kwan’s book, presumably meaning either Rachel, an Asian-American woman who visits her boyfriend’s family only to realize how staggeringly wealthy they are, or Astrid, the “goddess” scion of an even richer clan who discovers her husband might be being unfaithful. Wu is best known for her role as Jessica on Fresh Off The Boat; she’s also known as an outspoken critic of the way Asian-American and feminist issues are handled in Hollywood films.
