Scott Aukerman’s new Netflix Valentine’s Day special will leave viewers in the mood for love, the director says.
Co-directed by Aukerman — the creator of IFC’s “Comedy Bang! Bang!” and “The Lonely Island’s” Akiva Goldsmith — “Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special” stars and is executive-produced by the Grammy-winning musician alongside a slew of big-name guest stars.
According to the official description, the special follows Bolton “as he creates a sexy variety special that serves one very important purpose: to get people in the mood to make love.” And that’s a description that Aukerman promises the show will live up to.
“This is the biggest, sexiest special you will ever watch,” he said in an interview with TheWrap’s Stuart Brazell. “We want to inspire couples to take off their tasteful khakis and fold them by the bed and make love responsibly.”
“We really want every viewer of this, we want their sexual organs engorged and filled with blood,” he continued. “And secretions everywhere. And if we haven’t done that, then we haven’t done our job.”
As for how Aukerman and Goldsmith secured all those guest stars — which include Andy Samberg, Casey Wilson, Chris Parnell, Eric Andre, Jorma Taccone, Fred Armisen, Maya Rudolph, Michael Sheen, Randall Park and Sarah Silverman — they just asked.
“We just called up a bunch of friends of ours,” he said. “All we said was, ‘Hey do you want to be a part of a Michael Bolton Valentine’s Day special?’ And everyone said yes and just laughed immediately.”
