During awards season, film studios spend money on targeted advertisements towards awards voting groups in order to raise awareness for any given film. These For Your Consideration ads ideally extoll the virtues of the film and remind awards voters, as well as the general audience, to keep it in mind. For example, Bleecker Street is currently promoting its film “Captain Fantastic,” starring Viggo Mortensen as a patriarch of a large family who are forced to reenter society after living for years in the forest of the Pacific Northwest. Check out the FYC mailer below.
The film is directed by Matt Ross, best known for currently playing Gavin Belson on the HBO half-hour comedy “Silicon Valley.” He also had a starring role on the series “Big Love” and has appeared in films like Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator,” Whit Stillman’s “The Last Days of Disco” and Mary Harron’s “American Psycho.” He also previously directed the film “28 Hotel Rooms,” about a love affair between a novelist and an accountant.
“Captain Fantastic” made its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It went on to screen at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard category where Ross won the Best Director award. It entered limited release in June and is currently available on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital platforms.
