U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi is the featurd speaker at TheWrap’s Power Women Breakfast in Los Angeles, which will be broadcast via Facebook Live on Friday starting at 8:30 a.m. PT.
From 2007 to 2011, Pelosi served as Speaker of the House — the first woman to do so in American history. Now, as the Democratic Leader, she advocates for bigger paychecks and better infrastructure for America’s middle class families.
The breakfast will also feature Olympic athlete Allyson Felix, a six-time Olympic gold medalist who won two gold medals and a silver in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro. Four years ago, she won three gold medals at 2012 London Olympic games.
In addition, there will be a presentation by Diane Rehm, who since 1979 has hosted the Diane Rehm Show, which airs on WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington, D.C., and is distributed nationally by NPR. More than 2.4 million listeners tune in every week, but she announced recently that she would be retiring after the 2016 election. Rehm is the recipient of the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Women’s Foundation.
The Oct. 21 breakfast also welcomes three Courage Award-winning journalists to speak about their experiences reporting in conflict zones around the world: Janine di Giovanni, Middle East Editor of Newsweek and Contributing Editor of Vanity Fair; Mabel Cáceres, Editor-In-Chief, El Búho Magazine, Peru; and Stella Paul, Freelance Journalist, India.
The annual gathering brings together women of remarkable achievement to connect and inspire the leading influential women of entertainment, media, technology and brands in the key cities where those women work, create, gather, network and connect. The breakfasts in 2016 have convened in Washington D.C., San Francisco, New York and now Los Angeles.
